Sunday.....race day.
And so here we are. The winter has passed, the testing is over, the qualifing has given us a very interesting grid and the green flag is only hours away.
Predictions? I think the Penske guys will be ones to watch out for. Qualifying isn't everything, especially with drivers like Sam and Helio. They'll carve thier way to the front in no time. Panther will always be ones to watch out for. Mark Taylor has done everything right so far and Tomas was just flying earlier. As long as he keeps his cool he'll win a few this year. The Cheever boys are gonna be a dark horse all season. They've been very fast all throughout testing and Alex Barron prioved that was no fluke by getting a front-row starting spot. Ed Carpenter also got a top ten. Buddy Rice really came outta no where with that pole though. And his time was a 217, with Barron getting a 216 so he's got a great car underneith him. I don't think he's been in a position as high as this beofre in a IndyCar race, will the pressure get to him? Counting down the seconds.... |

Well, the sad fact is i'm going to wake up and find the winner and can't stay up and listen to it...but I still stick by Taylor for an upset victory followed by Dixon, Hornish, Barron and Franchetti

Reallistically anyone could win it, which is great.

I can hardly wait, I've got the beers on ice!
This really should be a competitive race and there will be alot of contenders for a win. Something's that I'll be looking for: Can Rice keep up that pace? He has the only G-Force that got anywhere close to the front, although he's driving for a permanent spot on the team, so he's motivated. Your right DF, qualifying isn't everything here, but Toyota is not looking very strong, and I wonder if Hornish can get to the front? Dixon might also have a tough day, with his G-Force starting 12th. My dark horse, Scott Sharp, seems to be lacking speed, but maybe he can draft with the pack, and keep the pace. Barron seems to own this track, as he's been on the top here, through all the testing. Also watch his teamate Carpenter, who has also been quick here. Franchitti is in a good spot and looked strong for his return. Scheckter and Taylor can both threaten here. With Chevy looking so strong, did Hornish make the right move? So much to talk about, but we'll just have to see how it turns out. It should be fun! |

Sporadic updates on the race once it gets underway would be most welcomed.
(edit) Also, does anyone know if there will be radio coverage available online somewhere? Last edited by rustyfan; 29 Feb 2004 at 17:18. |

Rusty, go to www.indyracing.com
They should be broadcasting it over IMS radio. Man, I hate to see you miss it! I'm not sure I'll be able to update you much during the race, but there should be plenty to talk about later... |

As for updates, having radio will make up quite a lot for not seeing it live on TV since US radio commentators are usually great at describing the events at the track. |

darn it franchitti!
that little wheel scuff really tossed him away- talk about razors edge balance. and putting sarah in the booth is awfully nice, but she seems so dejected for not having a ride (as she should be) and Paul blahblahblah Page has to bring up her Indy only ride... the airbox regs hasn't seemd to slow these things down has it? |

the Penske team running with team orders is kinda ugly, it may work to the teams advantage, but my guess is penske will give HCN senority over the twice champ Hornish...
and did n't shekcter just dodge that carbon fibre bullet?! |

I don't usually listen to IRL races, but I just tunned in and have been listening for the last 30 or so laps - these guys put on one hell of a show, it that close I can't pick a winner.

(edit) Congrats to Sam Hornish Jr. on a great win in a good (as far as I can tell having listened to it over the radio), safe race. Roll on Phoenix! Last edited by rustyfan; 29 Feb 2004 at 21:11. |
