NASCAR Cup Round 20: Brickyard 400 - Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Well, it's actually the Crown Royal Presents the Samuel Deeds 400 but who the hell cares to call it that other than Crown and Sam? Maybe the Crown Royal Dirty Deeds 400 would be a good name?

Filling in this week for a busy and more than likely tired JHamilton....

JAYSKI

John Paul Montana quickest in the first practice session.

I predict a very prestigious, boring race, with very fast, single wide racing. And I'll probably be watching......

That is a storybook qualifying session! Newman goes out last and snatches the pole from Johnson. Wow, good stuff. Now lets who see wants it in the Nwide.

at this weekend's NASCAR events at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, perhaps the most improbable NASCAR "advertiser" yet surfaced in the form of a mobile electronic billboard outside the Speedway grounds airing a video advertisement promoting the legalization of marijuana.

The Marijuana Policy Project, a non-profit group which works to change state laws to reduce or eliminate penalties for the medical and non-medical use of marijuana, erected the sign in protest against the state of Indiana's strong stand against the banned substance

I agree. I would really like to see a plate thrown on these cars and let em do 3 x 14 for 3 hours at Indy. Now that would be entertaining.

Nice looking crowd there today, which is encouraging. 150k if I were to guess. Obviously they just happened to be visiting/vacationing in Nap Town and decided to drive over for the race.

^ I heard they actually had to turn people away from the Speedway today; I believe they showed up to play a round of golf.

The high speed precession has begun in earnest. 53 caution free laps. ESPN proving they are the worldwide leader in Commercials. My normal country station that broadcasts the races is not airing it today. WTF?

Nice crowd? Worst ever for the 400 more like it.

Estimated attendance was 70,000. Down from 100,000 plus last year.

Boring race, ESPN must have sent a record for commercial breaks.

Congrats to Newman. I'm sure it improved his choices for next year, not that there are that many.

At about half-way through the race I just gave up. I couldn't watch anymore.

Newman is a great guy and congrats to him for his win today. Unfortunately, Newman has never really been a title contender, which will hurt his chances for finding a drive next year.

Mowing the lawn was more exciting than the race, The grass was unusually green for this time of year as well.

Hendrick Chevrolet Horsepower is a joke, if that was Toyota dominating like that, NASCAR would do something about it... Boring race & the stands where not packed either

A win and a pole will get him into both "all star" races next year. Couldn't hurt.

I hope IMS uses that $100 million the taxpayers of Indiana gave them wisely. It's kind of looking like a dump. But I guess all the money FTG took out of the place to prop up the IRL went to good use.

HJJ, all of Indiana is rusty and bumpy, based on my 2 unfortunate trips there. And the whole IMS facility looks like my high school football stadium times 240,000, plus a bad ass Pagoda, a golf course, a well manicured lawn, a really loud PA system and a way too early morning cannon.

And someone please name a great crowd at a NASCAR or Indycar race in the last 5 years....

Just this year alone? There have been plenty of good crowds even for Indycar.

70,000 people was the estimated attendance by the Indy Star, to give you an idea, that's one of the worst crowds of the year statistically in by far the sport's highest capacity track.

When will IMS hit the panic button?
