Franck message for Jarno?
RenaultF1 website:
The Renault F1 Team announced today that Franck Montagny will be at the wheel of the Team’s third car when they take to the track for the two hour private test session before the French Grand Prix on July 4. Executive Director of Engineering Pat Symonds, who will oversee Franck’s work as part of his normal race weekend duties, added: “I would like to welcome Franck to the team for this important test at our home race. We have every confidence he will do what is required to make an important contribution to the race weekend.” Mmmm. French team. French driver. French publicity. French expectations raised? French seat, next alongside the flying Spaniard? But how soon? Last edited by Hugh Jarce; 20 Jun 2003 at 10:55. |

I would expect Jarno to leave at the end of his contract. As the very talented although inexperienced Alonso is outperfoming him this year. Franck Montagny, being a frenchman would be good for the team as far as comfort and publicity goes.
If they are going to replace Jarno, and replace him with Montagny, testing will be very important, and with the limited testing for Renault, why not use him on fridays? Being the French GP also, the publicity and support for Renault would be great. |

It's probably as part of some French scholarship or a promise made by Renault. Tests like this happen more frequently than some believe.

How much pressure is there on Renault from the French media and public to run a French driver?
(if any) |

Maybe they should swap. I'd like to see a bit of Italian flair at Ferrari. |

We should make it clear this is for one race only. Allan McNish will be back for the rest of the season.
