What is happening with Formula Saloons in 2003, their web site is unchanged from last year and we have not heard from gary or nissan in the last couple of months ?

If still reading the threads guys can u let us know if you are still racing in 2003 and how is the championship looking.

Thanks

Hi Ern, still around and waiting for the new season., although I cannot spread any light on the web site I think you will find that the series is looking strong for 2003, most competitors tend to wake up after the Autosport show, and speaking of which there is a Formula Saloons stand and I believe but dont quote me that there will be a 2000 Mondeo super tourer on show.

The dates are listed on another thread in this section. Alvin Powell's car is the one on display at the WRDA stand which Formula Saloons are sharing. BARC are NOT attending this year.

Have you any idea why the BARC aren't attending the show this year, Rod?

It does seem strange. Maybe it's a financial consideration?

Formula Saloons are alive and well and the races in 2003 should be very well supported as they were last year. If any BTCC fans out there miss the Supertourers, just head along to a meeting that features the Formula Saloons - the Honda's, Nissan's, Mondeo's, Audi's etc. still race - and hard! Throw in non ex-BTCC cars such as Rod's awesome Escort Cosworth and Ric Wood's rumbling V8 Holden along with BMW's, Cossie Sierra's etc and great racing is assured.
Here is another of my recent paintings - it was commissioned by Martyn Sims who won at Silverstone last August in his Primera. Other Supertourers of Graham Coomes and Andy Clarkin are the challengers.
Go and check out the Formula Saloons in 2003!

I'd love to see the Formula Saloons, but sadly their calendar doesn't make it too possible for those of us north of the border Any chance of a Knockhill round, sometime, or at the very least timing the Croft round to coincide with the SMRC meeting there?

BARC absense from the show is probably for financial reasons, but there are almost certainly other reasons as well. It can be an expensive event and it looks as though it is going to be a tough year for both competitors and clubs. At least two smaller clubs folded up during last year.

Formula Sallons Web Site

Apologies to all for the lack of information or changes to the Web Site so far this year.
There has been some difficulty in accessing the site to update it for some while but changes to the hosting side of things should soon give the opportunity to get everything on an 'even keel' soon.

Please post a message to let us know when it's 'up and running' Derek. Hmm I see we live pretty close to each other. See you at Brands this year?

Hi All
The Webb Site will be up and running again this weekend, although the initial format will remain unchanged. Frantic work is underway to get it all up to date as soon as possible so please bear with us a little longer.

Good to see the web site up and running again, but will the new cars actually race ?, ie the Laguna, 99 Mondeos and the new Audi !!!!!.

Do we know who they are, and how many confirmed 2003 entries there are ?

Roll on April.

Niss
I have no reason to believe that the Laguna etc will not be racing this year, in fact I know for sure that the Mondeo's will! Unfortunately the people concerned don't want it published yet, and there are no entries owing to some delay with the MSA ratifying some minor Reg changes. Rumour has it that the Reg's will be OK for later this week.
I trust we'll see your drivers car at the 'test day' 4/4/03?
Just for the record, hidden in the depths of the Web is a little Competition, but sorry you don't qualify, it's just for public!!

I'm goinng back in March for a month so will try my hardest to be there, Because I can admire the spectecale of proper gentalmanly racers, at least you guy's have respect for your cars, I think that modern day BTCC has just turned into to stock cars for kids!!! but anyhow I hope to catch you at pembrey!!

I think you'll find the closest circuit to Manchester is Oulton Park.

The closest to Manchester that we are racing this year is croft on the 24/25th May or Donington Oct 5th. Hope you can make at least one of the rounds as early indications are that we will be getting a lot of new cars with as many as 7 V8's. Maximum registrations look to be as much as 40 with 30 being the minimum. Our new Club President Gerry Marshall is also hoping to debut in 1 race ( probably Brands) if we can find him a car.

With possibly more 'V8s' in the series it should make for an exciting season! To see Mr Gerry Marshall in a Formula Saloons Race would be fantastic! Just hope somebody can give him a car!!!
Where's 'Old Nail' and 'Baby Bertha'!!!!

Or Rick Wood playing catchup after starting from the pitlane because of problems with his car. His overtaking manoeuvre coming out of Deer Leap was awe inspiring: he overtook a car by the parc fermé exit as this car was overtaking a car which was on the Deer Leap box side of the track. There was a stunned silence after he had done the manoeuvre and then many how did he do that? questions:confused:

That's when Rick is at his best! It will great to see a few more V8's on the track to give him some real competition but then don't discount the Super Tourers....there are many circuits when the ST's will have it all their own way. It was suggested that it would be an idea to have the Formula Saloons on the same bill as BTCC, but they apparently declined the offer! I wonder why?
