Michael Valiante Interview

Thanks to our own 'TedN' who posted this at another forum:

Michael Valiante is going to be interviewed on The Auto Racing Zone, on the FAN590, tomorrow (Saturday) morning from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon EST.

Maybe he'll have some new info for us...

Michael didn't really say much. He wasn't asked flat out what was happening for this year but if something is happening he sure did a good job of keeping a secret.

Yea, if Valiante had any news, he held it really close to the chest. When asked why Canuck sponsorship was so hard to come by, he re-iterated that these days, companies must ensure the deal makes sense-business wise. The term "sponsorship" often sounds like they just give the money away. Having just a name placement on the car is not good enough these days.

From AutoRacing1.com ...

Quote:
Valiante stuns in first Grand-Am race UPDATE A reader adds, Dear Autoracing1, I was at the Rolex Series race today and got to see Valiante in action. I mean this when I say he made all of the other sports car legends look bad. He took over the car and was just simply amazing. I am a huge Champ Car fan and at one point didn't care one way or another if he made the series. After today, I am begging Eric Jensen to give him your seat! Ernest Barton

04/03/05 A good portion of Sunday's Grand-Am race at Fontana was led by Michael Valiante in the No. 19 Ten Motorsports car. Subbing for Memo Gidley who had a conflict with another race, Valiante took his place and promptly qualified the car higher than the team had ever qualified before. In the race he led and then pulled away from the powerful and far better funded Lexus team of Chip Ganassi until he had to pit and turn over the car to his teammate. Poor pit strategy resulted in a 7th overall finish. Still not a bad result and Valiante did set the fastest lap of the race.

What's bad is that so far only Derrick Walker has given Valiante a shot at a Champ Car race - in Mexico City last year. With zero testing and never having seen the race track, he promptly ran the old Reynard faster than a good number of Lolas and his more experienced teammate. There has yet to be a Champ Car team owner willing to give the very talented young Canadian a chance with a full-time ride. Without sounding like a Michael Valiante cheerleader, here is a direct quote from his team manager in Toyota Atlantic to AutoRacing1 last year - "Michael's the best driver we have ever seen. If he doesn't get a chance in Champ Car, that will be akin to Michael Schumacher never being discovered."
