I was looking forward to see how van Dam performed and I have to say he exceeded my initial expectations of him. I think the WS would be a logical next step for him after winning the German F3 Cup this season. I'd also dearly love to see Yelmer Buurman drive full-time for Fortec next year. He did excellently in his four WS races this year, he knows the team from his British F3 days and I think he would work well with James Walker (if he stays with the team).

WSR Fan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It's a little odd that we haven't had the official 2008 calendar released yet, but over at Italiaracing.net they have speculated the following list of dates for next year:

Code:
10/11 May Belgium (Spa-Francorchamps)
25 May Monaco (Monte Carlo)
7/8 June Britain (Silverstone)
28/29 June Hungary (Budapest)
30/31 August Germany (Hockenheim)
6/7 September France (Magny-Cours)
27/28 September Italy/Portugal/Turkey (Monza/Estoril/Istanbul)
25/26 October Spain (Barcelona)
TBA TBA
The 'To Be Announced' date is rumoured to be a round in Mexico in July, and with Renault apparently keen to use current F1 tracks, the British round looks likely to move to Silverstone with the German round also moving to Hockenheim.

If that GB date is correct it puts Renault UK's participation at the Croft round of the BTCC the weekend before in serious doubt.

Nice to see that it isn't Knockhill missing out again

Portuguese site sportmotores.com suggested that Estoril is actually not on the running for a WSR race.

You also have to say that is has been quite a week for Valtteri Bottas, race winner in UK FR2000 winter series and then test topping times in WSR. Wow!

This was Bottas' first season in single seaters and before WSR test he had never driven anything bigger than FR2.0... So not bad at all!

Why hasn't Duncan Tappy taken part in the test? I thought the champions from all the Formula Renault series got a WSR test as a prize.

Well well well, a name not mentioned for a while. 34 years old. Not a bad effort to say its probably his first time in the car.

Also got to say Pippa Mann has been very consistent, i wonder if she can get it together and challenge next season. She needs to really.

Indeed, I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I saw that name on the list!

Looks like there's been some very useful drivers out testing so far then including Hegewald who I think could be a real star in the making.

Yep, agreed. Even though there's not much track action over the winter, the whole driver market and 'who goes where' rumours make it quite exciting!

Talking of which, if Italiaracing are to be believed, Bertrand Baguette and Marco Barba (Alvaro's brother) have already signed for Draco for 2008. There could be some truth to it as they both tested for the team at Paul Ricard.

I know it's early days, but I'm guessing we'll see Julien Jousse and James Walker staying at their respective teams next year, with Robert Wickens getting a full-time seat at Carlin and Esteban Guerrieri taking one at Ultimate Signature. As for the rest, who knows..

Tomorrow Baguette will unveil his team for the 2008 season during a press conference in Brussels. My guess: Epsilon, not Draco.

I don't know for sure, but as the first test of 2008 is likely to be in mid-March, I would expect the teams to get them around the beginning of February.

Thanks for the info formule3000.

The last group test of the year kicks off tomorrow in Valencia, with the current Dallara chassis having it's last outing before the new car is introduced next year.

The list of drivers testing this week, as provided by italiaracing, are:

Quote:
Draco: Bertrand Baguette - Marco Barba

Prema: Carlos Iaconelli - Michael Herck - Miguel Molina - Yelmer Buurman

RC Motorsport: Johnny Cecotto - Pasquale Di Sabatino

Comtec: Xavier Maassen - Duncan Tappy - Marco Bonanomi - James Walker

Carlin: Daniil Move - Robert Wickens - Mikhail Aleshin

Cram: Giedo Van der Garde - Pippa Mann - Daniil Move

Fortec: Fairuz Fauzy - Carlo Van Dam - Duncan Tappy - Edoardo Piscopo

Victory: Parthiwa Sureshwaren - Charlie Kimball

KTR: Alexandre Marsoin - Alvaro Barba - Carlos Iaconelli - Guillaume Moreau - Xavier Maassen

Epsilon: Dani Clos - Roberto Merhi - Mario Romancini - Victor Garcia

Pons: Aleix Alcaraz - Juan Polar - Michael Herck

Interwetten: TBA - TBA

Tech 1: TBA - TBA
I'll be interested to see how Carlo Van Dam and Aleix Alcaraz do after their strong showings at Paul Ricard the other week. And it's good to see Charlie Kimball back in action as well.

Thanks for that WSR. Did you happen to see the session start times anywhere, and there's only 2 seats at Carlin (if I have it right)?

Young Daniil Move, seems like quite a commodity. Anyone he hasn't tested with? Good for him.
