Skaife re-bidding for TEGA board?
Has anyone else heard something about this? I got a text from a friend in Queensland about it, but can't find much else. I am assuming now that Skaife owns the team, Grech is not eligible (?)
I hope he does get on it, love him or loath him he knows he stuff and maybe something will happen! (Then again, maybe not ) Last edited by Wizzby; 19 Nov 2003 at 09:23. |

Its in AA this week, does that mean much these days?
I doubt he could find the time, however Mr Weissel could ably attend to the matters of state on Mr Skaife's behalf. |

Yeah its only in AA and you say that counts for very little, but I would like to see Mark Skaife on the TEGA board sure he S@#Ts me at times - Well most of the time, but his knowledge of things V8Supercar is extremely good, and he has a great ability to explain things so an average jo like me understands what he is talking about. Might do some good for the sport to have him there.

The new board idea of one Ford, one Holden and 3 independents sounds like a crock of excrement....
They struggle to get a credible quorum now, how would 2 extra outsiders with no recent experience of the series make the world a better place |

Yeah as much as fans like us have opinions I cant see a few fans on the Tega Board without experience being of any use to the ongoing growth and well being of this series at all.

I wouldn't mind giving it ago, okay so I'm not that old but I do have knowledge on how a business works, and I know what fans want... Call it a pipe dream, but I think there are quite a few people out there with something to offer.

The logical structure would include representatives from the teams, from the promoters, with TC, from the manufacturers with a properly independent chairman.
But why would they listen to us... oops, it will probably appear in AA next week as the next big idea |

Wizzby I think you got the wrong idea I was not bagging MS, just asking a question, even thought I am a FORD man I rekon MS is Holden best.

But seriously, would MS have the time? It's been a big change to team owner this year, is he able to cope with this as well?

Perhaps he could nominate JC to stand in for those parts of his new role that MS doesnt have time to do....

From what I understand, JC is relegated HSV-only duties now. Not sure that too many miss him though.
What extra responsibilities does MS now have as 'team owner', that he didn't have earlier this year? Writing out a monthly cheque to HNL perhaps?? |

I would not be placing your house on the line on the first part of your statement MHDT....
Do you have the choice of writing cheques to HNL? In their case, and with Ford Credit, the usual deal is to vacuum the bank account directly |

I read the JC interview in AA weeks ago with interest, he was spot on about a few things not the least of which was the lack of a business plan by AVESCO. Something that is normally a must in the business world these days as GTR would attest to |

How can AVESCO have a business plan when it has no seat at the table at TEGA?? Its a chicken and egg argument, but the commercial side cannot have focus and direction if it is not intimately involved in the discussions around the TEGA board table.
I thought that much may have been obvious.... |

Well it seems anecdotally that I am actually supplying real life info to Scott Adams at www.dilbert.com as most things he draws there are so similar to this business its laughable. So perhaps I am in the comic book trade.
And I still dont see how AVESCO can do a whole lot when the commercial considerations are not included in any TEGA decision making. The very structure of this makes them discrete operations, which is likely why they present disjointedly. |

At the end of the day AVESCO's main aim in life is the marketing of V8 Supertaxis while TEGA looks after the racing side of same, something marketing people have no clue about and therefore stick to what they know. It is a business model replicated many times over in the business world.
GTR, are you suggesting that IMG or any other promoter should have a seat on the TEGA board also? |

AVESCO contract IMG to promote various meetings, so IMG would not need a seat at the table. But to exclude AVESCO from the process when it will impact the commercial reality is more than a little silly.

Commercial reality as opposed to technical decision making. I dont really think AVESCO would crumble if they didnt have a say in whether the cars run with Larry or Garry bars, 10 or 12 inch wide rubber. Certainly they have survived to this point.
