In no particular order:
Gil de Ferran Dario Franchitti Patrick Carpentier Tony Kanaan Cristiano da Matta Honourable mentions go to Paul Tracy, Jimmy Vasser, Helio Castroneves and Kenny Brack. However, my top 5 might be seen as completely biased!! |

1) Gil de Ferran 2) Helio Castroneves 3) Cristiano da Matta 4) Kenny Brack 5) Scott Dixon I know they have the best car, but I'm pretty convinced about the top two. The others have inpressed me at various moments throught the year. |

in 2001 deFerran is better than Andretti, but looking at Andretti's entire career his accomplishments, in terms of race wins, poles, and laps led have earned him a place on my all time list.
The 39-year old Andretti is a bit of a dissapointment to me. but I feel that a second marriage and fatherhood has taken a bit of his competitive edge away. His comments earlier in the season about the Michigan Speedway show that. Back in the 80-90's Andretti would never settle for second place (a trait which, ironicly, has cost him winning a few more championships) ut now Michael doesn't seem to push it as hard, but he is still one of the best out there. DeFerran will likely creep onto my best all time list if he keeps up the solid championship caliber driving that he is doing now. DeFerran reminds me of Rahal back in the late 80's. But of the current driver's in their present form, DeFerran is the best. |

1. Gil
2. Helio 3. Everybody Else I think it's an unusually strong field this year and except for the clear dominance of the Penske cars, you can't really fault any of them. However, I would not put Mikey anywhere near the top of my list. Unless you are making a list of the top ten cry-babies of the year (Want a little brie with that whine, Mikey?) Has anything this year actually been his fault? If Jean Alesi is considered washed up, then obviously Mikey is ready for the Old Drivers' Home (Brand X Racing.) |

Overachievers:
De Ferran- smart, no messing about Castroneves- fast, fun Brack- ovals Carpentier- positive Dixon- rookie! Moreno- not so old Gidley- despite big crash and job security Servia- new team Vasser- unlucky Andretti- likewise Fernandez- not an easy job Underachievers: Tracy- gaining weight Franchitti- won't be much good in F1 at this rate Papis- replaceable Junqueira- very lucky to win Gugelmin- a bit pointless Takagi- only good in FNippon? |

I can't believe I forgot to put one of my all time favourite drivers on my list.
ROBERTO MORENO!!! Oh, and the reason I failed to put Brack on is that he's good on ovals, but useless on anything else, so therefore he isn't that good on my books as CART is a championship that isn't based solely on ovals, you need all round driving expertise on all sorts of tracks. If he's so good on ovals, he should go back to Brand X Racing. |
