Have you ever wanted to become a Volunteer Race Official/Marshal and get real close to the action, but never knew how to do it? It isn't that hard!

Winton Raceway in North East Victoria is holding a training/information day on Sunday January 14th and all new comers are encouraged to attend. The day will cover all aspects of being a Race Official/Marshal.

It went quite well GTR.

Congrats to Trev on organising the day.

Something like 75 people signed on for the day, probably about half of them being newbies, and they went through subjects like;
What to bring with you,
What to expect when you arrive,
Where to go & who to look for,
Basic rules,
Basic Fire Fighting included practical exercises 15km away from a bush fire

What Race Control looks like & how it works during an event.

Various senior officials also went through the different officials disciplines within the sport and they even had me talk about flag marshalling

It was definately a case of information overload for a lot of them but as I said to them "If you have a question just ask someone, we were all new to this once and are only too happy to help you" After all even BFC has been known to answer questions when people get up enough courage to actually talk to him.

Many of the new people were keen to give it a go and many where interested in not only Winton events but the chance to work at other tracks in Victoria so that's got to be good for the sport in general.

Well done to Trev, Winton & the AASA on organising the day & I was only to happy to assist in my small way.

Thanks PVDA, I was really happy with the day and it was encouraging to see so many new people there.

A big thanks to all those who gave up their time (some on holiday - HW) to pass on their knowledge and help make the day a success.

Nah, I just fill in as required upstairs at present although they are looking for some new faces due to event clashes affecting a couple of regulars this year.

I would have loved to show up and get involved in Winton somehow , but sadly work and family commitments prevent me from having too much other stuff to do.

Maybe eventually if this is a regular thing one day I will get down there and have a look at what its all about.

It will be an annual event, this was the 2nd, it will be about the same time next year, just beofre the racing season kicks off.
