Another change to qually.
Five minutes to be lopped off the boring bit, which should see things get a little more hectic. It's still a maybe though.http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpa...s_art_id=28623

Should be done in time for Magny Cours, but needs to be approved by the World Council first.....it could happen, and qualifying would be the better for it!

It doesn't sound much, but it'll make a definite difference.

fans have been moaning about losing that five minutes since the start of the season. No great surprise really.
Not really going to make that much difference is it |

Why oh why can't they see that nobody likes the race fuel rule? It's dull and barely conquers up any surprising results.
I'm glad they want to lop off that extra 5 minutes but it wasn't the change that needed pushing through. |

A slight but still an improvement IMHO.
A minor concern I have is that this might increase the importance of the pit stop strategy on the outcome of qualifying. With the current system, we at least know that they all have at least enough fuel for 20 minutes of racing (unless the car remains in its garage for part of the last session). The change might make the possibility of a 3 pit stop strategy more likely for a better position on the grid. |

Yep, the fuel thing is a bit of a gripe.
But it was never touted for a change so I feel less dissapointed about it than I possibly could be. |

Thank God! Half a season going by without yet another qually change must have been a recent record for the FIA.

In real terms, teams have lost the chance to burn off 5 minutes' worth of fuel, which is going to tip the balance slightly towards making more pitstops. If a car starts with 30 laps of fuel, and another with 20, they would perhaps drop to 22 and 12 laps' when they do the flying lap with a 20-minute session, but 25 and 15 with a 15-minute session, thus reducing the relative advantage of being light. Sorry about the maths.
Completely changing the system mid-season would be impractical and hard to explain, this is a much more reasonable refinement, although perhaps they could add some time to the early sessions, or allow started laps to finish? |

Boots' post brings to my mind the wish that, if they cut by 5 minutes the last session, that they will now let the cars complete their final lap in the first two sessions if started before the expiration of the clock as with the final session.

Allowing them to finish laps in the first two, having removed 5 minutes from the final session, would represent a decent step forward IMHO.
Let us hope that can happen. |

Well, it looks promising then, if it doesn't harm the TV breaks then it will happen...

Qualifying session could improve a bit if they, at last, learn how to make better screen info. I particularly like the system used in FIM bikes GPs, informative and not intrusive.
Americans also do a good job of screen info in their series IMO. It's a bit surprising how relatively few upgrade has had in F1 along the years in this field. |

I totally agree.
Although, this year, to be fair, Bernie's graphics have taken a definite step forward (much room for improvement, though). |

The FIA has admitted that 20 minutes of fuel burning wasn't too interesting, but it thinks that 15 minutes of the same fuel burning is more interesting to watch...
Why don't they just leave it, and scrap that fuel burning for 2007? And this will be the 7th qualifying format since 2003! |

I agree that they should do something more major for '07, but I don't see why that is a reason to take a full complaining stance now. As for the number of changes. Is it really seven? Anyway it is a lot and it is a little silly, but if we are in the position where we don't like the current system then a change like this is good irrespective of how many have gone before. Let me buy you a drink as your current one seems to be half empty |

Something radical. One hour, twelve laps.
Perhaps they won't come out straight away, but then that only effects people who get bored easily. TV companies could be a little more imaginative, think on their feet and fill this with intelligent discussion on F1 and articles or interviews from the pit lane. Although maybe that last part is harder to acheive than getting Q changed. |

I think this idea it's too radical for F1, really.
