Should Aussie Racing Cars get a new manager?

You see here's the deal..

Should CAMS sack Phil Ward and appoint a new category manager for Aussie Racing Cars?

One of his former companies went into administration in 2006 while it was managing the Aussie Racing Car series. Then CAMS gave him the management rights in 2007 without asking for anyone else to do it. Makes you wonder is he going to do it again now that he is doing NASCUP as well.

Maybe he isnt making enough money in ARC?..

But then again, according to ASIC the NASCUP name is not registered in Australia.

ohhh one other thing NASCUP cars can be purchased direct from the USA complete or in kit form for around half the price that Phil Ward wants to sell them for.

From what I found on the website, he's a authorised dealer. As for category manager of NASCUP, I'd say that could be up for grabs for anyone to take, as there is no formal association to CAMS at the moment. Which could either mean that there needs to be a minimum amount of cars ready to race before CAMS takes notice of the category as a stand alone, or they don't know anything about it as yet.

As for the rest of this thread, I'm sure that questions will be asked sooner or later about the business practices. I'm sure that companies IMG, VE$A, Gold Coast Indy group and so on, will soon hear about this issue. Or be told that they have to deal with the administrator, which is usually the case in these instances. But as per usual, does it effect ARC?? Time will tell.

He builds them.

As for the proposed NASCUP series, that's all we need, yet another one make series in Australia.

Aussie Racers are too big to race with Go Karts, too small to be on the track with normal sized cars and has too many wheels to play with motorcycles (they run bike engines after all) so if the series were to fall over the cars will be useless although they could possibly play with the Future Racers under the AASA

Phil ward is the official australian dealer so no you cannot buy a baby grande from the states from australia. You can only go to phil ward direct as the american company will tell you. You could find someone in america who would buy it for you, then you would have to ship it over here and pay the shipping, taxes etc but it would then probably owe you more.

hey FA why did it go into administration.

Really what you have provided is not much. Nascup does not have to be refistered, its just a name in fact its prabably an abreviation

Typical of the attitude on here peckstar, the countriesmost popular category and best run so why wouldnt someone try to cut it down, the good ol tall poppy syndrome. i am sure the heiracy at v8sc and CAMS have access to more info than is available on here and as i see this was listed in 2000 it could hardly be relevant now.

You do know that with a bit of creative accounting and corporate scheming, they can or could avoid having this information passed on. Plus I very much doubt that VE$A or CAMS would have any of this information freely available or on request from ARC. Some business men will go to a lot of trouble to try and avoid getting caught out. Some even have multiple companies listed or running, and even use one of the failing one's to write off debt.

I have this morning 100% confirmed that Babygrand or "NASCUP" cars are available for purchase direct from the USA to Australia. There is a number of dealers over there and two that have confirmed with an associate of mine that will ship all parts and chassis direct from the states.

I also beleive that there is another company here in Victoria who is also setting up to act as a dealer for Babygrand and believe that they will have a state series up and running within the next 6 months.

Bike velodromes....that could be a fair bit of fun I think, mini NASCARs on a mini oval. Good thinking.

Velodromes (indoor) are often used for winter karting in europe. They use restricted gearing and a dry lubricant with a hard tyre so that the wooden surface isn't impregnated with stuff that makes it hard to cycle on....

I believe it's been done in Tasmania and possibly Adelaide? Very NASCAR like.

There is an indoor velodrome in;

Launceston
Melbourne
Sydney
Adelaide
Perth

I'm sure if somebody approached them about it they'd consider it. Aussie racers, or anything similar would be wayyyyyyy to heavy & quick.

Concrete/bitumen velodromes can be found in nearly every 3rd Victorian town and quite a few others throughout the eastern seaboard. I've never seen a race on one and frankly I can't think of more than half a dozen that I'd like to race a kart on - and then after some work. Again, superspeedway style with dry lube & rock hard tyres.

a couple of futureracers have sampled the thunderdome driven by Marshall Brewer [ex nascar racer] and their regular drivers extremely fast but could not achieve maximum speed as set up was way too soft, bottoming out in the turns ,even raising the height did not help.Marshall did say it had potenial with much stiff springs and shocks but the chassis and safety cage would need to beefed up to take hit on the wall.He also said speeds in excess of 230-240 kph would be possible.Times achieved were not far off the nascar ones.Bob Jane was a keen specator, thought they were great but was concerned about the safety factor with a larger number of cars on track.

Geez David don't you read the press releases (both Noddy Cars and Baby Bells), according to them it's true, if you don't believe them, just ask Flogger.

For those who haven't seen the Future Racers in action here is an incident which occured at Calder in March AMRS round last year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5K3vh49d9M

I have to say they are more impressive under the skin compared to the Aussie Racers.
