Diecast display cabinets and LED lighting

Having outgrown my current display cabinet I have finally committed to a new one (see attached). I am interested if anyone has any experience with LED light strips that they'd be so good as to share?

I am thinking that I will run a total of 7 strips (one on each shelf) and these will likely run the full length of the shelf with holes created through each of the the 3 vertical dividers where the strip will run through. I am guessing it would be best to run this inside a diffuser but not sure if it makes sense to fix the strips to the front ort rear of each shelf and whether this should be at the front, centre or rear? Guess it depends on the diffuser/profile used? Any suggestions?

In terms of powering the strips I am guessing I would need to order 7 individual strips with an approx overall length of 2.5m and then somehow connect each to a driver? How would I go about calculating/sourcing the correct driver? This really isn't my area of expertise and a guide would be welcomed!

Thanks for any help!

I can't help much with the LEDs other than agreeing that one strip per shelf sounds like the best solution. Some LED strips can daisy chain off each other so you may not need a separate power feed for each strip - presumably there is a limit to how many you can connect like this before things start getting sketchy.

What I'd like to know is where that cabinet is from?

Thanks. I kinda feel like there must be a specialist company who can advise and supply the materials for me. I will have to try and locate one unless anyone has any recommendations.

I had the cabinet made to measure. Not sure when it is coming - hopefully in the next 4-6 weeks or so. Will update when it is here.

When it is I will be selling my old glass displays if anyone is interested!

My cabinets came from IKEA, with extra shelves. Suits my car's, 18th and 43rd scale, collection. No lights fitted though as my ceiling lights are variable and illuminate quite well. Your collection is very good.

I have the Billy/ Oxberg cabinets with glass doors. I also bought extra shelves that fit as I needed them to take the complete collection. Hope this helps.

Have you asked the company building the cabinet about lighting options? It may be something they've dealt with before?

Kitchen lighting solutions should be suitable I'd have thought - maybe a good place to start? There's a range of cabinet lighting available so could be worth a look?

The cabinet has arrived and I have assembled it over the past weekend, fitted the LEDs and given the cars a good clean as I put them in the display. Pretty happy with the results!

That looks really good - where did you get the LEDs from in the end?

That's incredible, Craig! I'm very jealous!

If I could make one request... If you could move the Dodgers ball one or two spots away from the Braves one, I would greatly appreciate it!

The cabinet came from a company in Germany called Pickawood who make to order using an online configurator. Very expensive really but got a good deal on a black Friday promotion so went for it. The LEDs I sourced from a company called LEDSpace who were exceptionally helpful in assisting me to configure exactly what I wanted. I went for COB spotless strips to save me the hassle of cutting and fitting 32 diffusers and I am more than happy with the results particularly the ability to vary both the brightness and the warmth of the light. Again not the cheapest way of going about the task in hand but I felt if it was worth doing then I might as well try to do it right.

I attach another photo showing the display in day light for comparison.

Now to advertise the old cabinets on ebay. Not used that in years so wish me luck!!
