thoughts on Dixon so far
He seems to be doing very well and williams seem to be showing him a fair bit in the way of setup and the like which you think would be a waste if they weren't thinking of keeping him. Seems like he is the firmest of all the rumors so far , how much do we read into this.

Barcelona will be a real test.
Paul Ricard was good for starters, but it's a track that levels drivers of different categories. For comparison, when Da Matta first started testing F1 cars, Paul Ricard was the only track his gap to Panis was closer. Dixon is a good driver and if he does well in Spain... well, he will have everything to be in F1 next year |

I like Dixson and I would like to see him in F1 it would be great for our Bro's across the ditch .
I only really see 3 possible ways for willaims in 05 1.Ralf & Webber leaving Dixon for 06 2.Ralf & Dixson leaving Webber to Renault in 05 3.Webber & Dixson with Ralf at Toyota |

That's what we all hope; let's just hope he'll have a competitive car to drive next year.

Thoughts on Dixon so far? Wins the IRL straight up, classic winning history and laps the Williams very fast at his first go. Methinks he will go far.
wins the IRL |

When a driver can achieve immediate success in the IRL and can lap some very decent times in an F1 car straight out of the box when he was nowhere near impressive in CART surely says something about both F1 and the IRL, especially the IRL...

It's too early to really judge just how great his potential is regarding driving an F1 car, but he's got a very good approach and is a proven winner - oval racing is all about tactics, so he's got a good brain in there - it was a very mature championship he took in '03. Also remember he's only 23!
Remind me, what engine was in his PacWest Champ Car? |

Not bad again...
Gené 1m15s211 Dixon 1m15s922 Better than Rosberg and slightly slower than Piquet, who were testing last years car during the winter. Piquet 1m15s809 Rosberg 1m16s491 But as I said, Paul Ricard is a lot easier than Barcelona. Can't find it in my records, but I think that Pizza Boy was quicker than any of them, including Ralf. He's certainly holding his own. Tomorrow, if it's dry they'll probably give him a couple of qualifying runs, low fuel, new tyres and just say go as fast as you can. I think he could do a time in the low 14s/late 13s.

He's a Toyota man, though. He has been powered by Toyota engine ever since he debuted in CART (2001).
For those who don't exactly know about him, Dixon holds the record of being the youngest CART race winner. When he won at Nazareth 2001 he bettered the mark of the late Greg Moore, who was alsom watched by Williams. In 2002 Dixon, thanks in part to Toyota, was able to escape from the expiring PacWest team and signed mid season with Target/Chip Ganassi Racing. In 2003 TCGR went to the IRL and Dixon won that title beating Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan. |

Seems like he's done quite well considering that it was his first time in an F1 car in the wet. If he got a go for 2005, I'm sure he'd do pretty well, although I suspect Frank will want to see more before committing.

I don't think Dixon's times were that impressive if compared to the ones set by the F3 kids with famous surnames... But that would be the case with anyone coming from IRL or Cart.
Montoya and Da Matta were not that quick either... So I wouldn't be surprised if Williams signed Scott... But Frank will only do that after being absolutely sure the boy can also make the transition, bringing results straight away. My opinion? No doubt Dixon can do it... If Williams will give him a chance... only the time will say. But I wouldn't put my money on that. |
