Window Nets (help!)
I'm after some advice really and would appreciate any comments any you may have.
For this season I've decided to fit window nets rather than persevere with the cracked and badly fitting perspex windows I have now. The problem with my car is that it doesn't have a window frame as such, so I'd need a net that fits to one of the roof bars. So far, so good - most of them do this. But what then? How does it attach to the door? I've seen these Which fit on straps between the roof bar and the drivers door bar, which would be ok, but there's a seatbelt type mechanism to undo at the top to get in and out. Is this acceptable? It would make opening the door a 2 stage process (unclip net then open door). Otherwise there's the Sparco type nets which look like they'd attach fine to the roof bar, but what do you do with the bottom? Velcro it to the door? Again, what is acceptable here from a scruitineering/safety point of view. Cheers, Richy Last edited by Richy_Rich; 12 Feb 2004 at 07:36. |

Not having much luck with this enquiry it seems are you?
What about making your own frame bolted to the places where the wind-up window sliders normally go? Mik Last edited by Mik; 13 Feb 2004 at 12:47. |

Nope. I'll figure something out, I'm sure. I just wondered what the rules were on this, there's not much on it in the blue book from what I can see.

No there isnt much in the MSA regs (and we still suffer from event officials trying to insist on glass side windows being fully shut...) Interestingly, Nasa Autograss insists on the same fastening system for all window nets so that all marshals know how to undo them.

Thats a good idea. I'm off to ask the marshals.

Have you considered using the arm restraints instead. I have used them is an MGF this year. At first I thought they would be rather restrictive but they are not at all. I think TRS sell them.
