C R Box should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Car setup - my stupid idea

I'd like to say that this happened in my younger, less expierienced days, but it didn't.
You see I was trying to set up the brake balance bar adjustment, prior to arrival at the venue that I was driving the car to. On the road I just couldn't be confident, that I'd got it spot on.
Brainwave. I'll find a quiet area, accelerate and brake hard a few times, then, and this was the clever bit........... feel the front and rear discs with my fingers to see which is hotter and adjust the bar accordingly.
Don't do this. Brake discs get hotter than they appear.
Most stupid car setup idea or have you a better one?????????

Can't top that one, but I've done some pretty stupid things. Like the time when I had an oil leak that I couldn't trace, so I tied a little plastic bag round my oil filter to see if that would stop it. Obviously forgot that engines get hot enough to melt polythene bags. D'oh Still, no damage done..

Once had a bearing on the way out, chewing up the rod and had some aluminum in the oilpan. No time to change the engine, and had to run it as is, so one of the guys suggested we try to fish the aluminum out with a magnet... laughs all around, although he couldn't figure out why...

John Cooper was reported in Motor Sport in the late 50s to have used his finger as a dipstick. Inspired, you might say - as DSJ quoted 'he is unlikely to lose it...'

Been there, done that, only to be topped by trying to see if an electric light socket was live by sticking my finger in it. I was only 15 then so it was half an excuse
