What lenses??????

Hi All
Just got myself a Digital SLR and was wondering what lenses to get....
Right before you get carried away with your proffesional end of the market lenses at thousands of pounds, this is a hobby... So budgets are small

I have bought myself a Canon 300D (best value for my money and I like Canon) got it imported from Hong Kong via eBay... Saved £180 against UK prices

Yes I have seen the post about peoples thoughts on the 300D's ability at motorsport photography...

Any help and advice you can give this novice will be gratefully received

something with a bit of length...at least a 300mm, no real need for 2.8, a f.4 will be ok. and don't be taken in by people who extole the virtues of things like 50-500mm zooms!

I don't think you'd be disappointed with Canon's 75-300 USM lenses (Mks 1-3).

They're light but feel good and the USM motor in the lens makes focusing a bit faster.

Check on jessops second hand site too, jessops.com/used

Hi Peter. All the pictures on my site (www.auto-focus.co.uk) were taken with the 75-300 USM III. I'm looking to upgrade soon but it is possible to get good results with this lens. If you're willing to stretch the budget a little further there is an IS (Image Stabilisation) version of this lens for about £350.

Hi Pete, The 300D is a cool camera and the 75-300 usm III is a very good lens. You will get lots of chat about "soft" images etc, but unless you have upwards of £1000 burning a hole in your pocket for a L series, this is one of the lenses to go for. IMHO avoid copies they are just not worth the agrovation.

Images from the 300D can have a tendancy to come up dark so spend a bit of time working with the white balance.

Examples are at www.picturesports.co.uk
