Stupid effort of a TOCA PC game
Has anyone seen the new TOCA game to be released by Codemasters? I'm not too sure about the ETCC and DTM because I don't follow the series avidly, but they're using all last year's teams! Plato is driving the works Vauxall, Bennett and Thompson are in the EGG, Harvey is driving for JSM, and Slight is driving a Pug. If I remember correctly, didn't Slight only make one appearance in a Pug? Barwell Motorsport is nowhere to be seen either.
WHy have they bothered to release a game which is out of date before it's out? Madness. CHeck it out at Codemasters |

Because they started making the game last year, plus they base it on the previous year to make it an accurate simulation of that year, they can hardly make it on 2002 because it has hardly started. I'll be getting the game regardless.

Yeah to right. Mostly evry game is a year behind. Only wrc for the ps2 was the same year. Although it was released a month before the nw season

Remember that licenses require a lot of money to buy, especially for current ones.
1. Codemasters are one of the smaller developer/publishers out there, no where near the behemotical proportions of EA, Sega or Infogrames, so saving where you can is a must, especially considering Codies have to pay for licenses such as McRae, Mike Tyson and the IRL/Indy 500 one they've literally announced five minutes ago. 2. Most customers won't care. they'll buy it because it's a car racing game, not because it's touring cars. I doubt most of them will know what the BTCC, DTM or Aus V8s are, so the fact the data is a year out of date won't be a huge loss to them. Again, this could save a lot of money. 3. Stability. Take EA's F1 2002 game. They can be pretty assured that there won't be any major driver changes during the course of a season, hence the reason they can go do these things with current system data. The BTCC is less certain - TMSR and GRM have both announced they'd be racing, but have we seen either yet? No. For developers, that's a nightmare situation, because these things take ages to model, etc. Anyway, that's the way the games biz works. And an out-of-date Touring Car game is better than no touring car game at all, right? |

It seems many people complain about games being 'out of date' nowadays. I don't know about anyone else but I'd rather a game released based on the previous season and being entirely accurate than a game released before the current season has ended and not being entirely accurate!

In case you guys weren't aware, a supposedly 60% complete version of the Codemasters game is available online! It seems to be an official release as the opening screen has a disclaimer along the lines of "This demo is a 60% complete version and does not fully represent the finished product".

Having just looked at the official website and seen the range of cars available, I won't be losing too much sleep over it being last years licence.
Can't wait to get my grubbly little hands on the GT cars, and a Mini Cooper up against a Dodge Charger should be interesting. |

For me part of the fun of TOCA2 is making skin for the new season and other series so being a year out is in some ways a bonus..
Also you can find fan made tracks for a new challenge. Don`t pay too much attention to the demo as it`s only a beta that was never intended for public viewing Hey Spaced drop me an E=mail so we can meet for a beer,i`m not far from you. |

I agree that there are a lot fan made car skins. For those who love Supertouring cars, you can "race" many cars over the years. Cars that you never thought would see in "real" life (in the game!!) But I haven't found too many interesting fan made tracks? They're all based on existing tracks. It would be really interesting if someone created a Bathurst or Nurburgring track for Toca 2.

I don't think it matters to be honest, as long as it plays well I don't really care.
