FIA-ACO conference : aside from the entry lists
So, I noticed several elements reported during the conference of this 13th of february :
a new logo which reminds "Innovation, popularity, novelty" (P. Fillon) ; Main goal of the new regulations : minus 30% of consumption, "a little revolution" ; A "second screen" will be created in order to follow races of WEC, it's a app which will be available on mobiles. They didn't give many details. A French TV presenter (Fred) of a scientific magazine intoduced a TV series about the new technologies displayed at LM this year. They will visit Shell, Michelin and some other actors. Each video will relate a technical item : engines, hybrid systems, cars conception, consumption control, new driving... The last video will be about the applications of these technologies on road cars. All these 12 videos will be released with the rythm of one every 10 days till the week-end of the race. They will be available for upload on ACO site, YouTube and Dailymotion ; (in french only, maybe, they didn't say). About the calendar, G. Neveu : same places, stability ; apart the Sao paulo race will be at the end of the year because of the World Cup (soccer). About the race control : the slow zone procedure will be used. A new telemetry/GPS system will be used for a better knowledge of live positions : for instance, it will inform a GT pilot that a LMP1 is coming behind (signal on dashboard). I particularly noticed these sentences :
And the most important thing, Pierre Fillon said that the selection is so difficult and heartbreaking that the ACO have decided to built one or several additional garages for 2017 (he said stands so it will bealong the pitlane). BTW, Dr Ullrich was wearing a red pull-over, a sign of support for Schumi, maybe. Last edited by PascaLM; 13 Feb 2014 at 16:52. |

Once again thank you Pascal for your live translation in the chat!
You did a better job than Radio Le Mans could! |

I'm interested in this notion of the second screen and using an app on your mobile phone. However... I hope they take into consideration people who are traveling from afar and will be roaming. I cringe at the idea of how much my phone bill might be after coming back from Europe and having streamed a bunch of video for 24 hours! Hopefully they will have wifi at various locations around the circuit that can be purchased for a reasonable price.

I will investigate a 1 week french Sim cars solution, just so I can get the data for that second screen.
And a whole lot of AA batteries to keep my iPhone alive |

Happy to hear about the pit situation. With a track the size of Le Mans the race shouldn't be limited to 56 entries. I reckon they'll add another couple to make it 58. Not sure how or where.
App sounds good. Will use it at Silverstone if poss. Let's see when it comes to French roaming. |

Oh dear, finally there are TV series promoting the superiority of LMP techs. Hopefully not French only please, at least have English subtitle works fine.

Yep, I've got an earlier Tecknet version. Works brilliantly. I can get 3-4 full charges out of it.

Or buy one of those solar panel thingies. Everyone knows the Le Mans week has enough sunshine to keep you cellphone and laptop charged...

Indeed so. We will have an abundance of scorchio this year. You won't have room for beer, you'll need all the space in the car for the extra sun cream and sunhats.......

The weather could be incredible but one of those duff solar chargers would still probably fail.

I'm sticking to my AA Charger, it has never failed, and it's easy to get replacement batteries

What about this? It runs on Hydrogen, but unlike last years garage 56 it is real.
