I will have to admit a disproportinate number of top level riders come out of Australia. There must be a heckuva amateur level program down under.

Well...strangely not really. Though when most of these guys went through there was a halfway decent system with superbikes and a few others at a national level. It's not quite so good now, so in about 5-10 years we'll be waiting for another Wayne Garnder to launch onto the scene unless something can be done to keep bike racing uppermost in young people's minds.

Wayne who?
Oh yeah. That guy that Eddie Lawson teamed with just so Eddie could show him how to ride a Honda. Last edited by Redneck; 10 Oct 2001 at 14:01. |

As for Aussie riders of the present and their future. The greater emphasis on production racing domestically may not be all bad. Now to do well internationally the springboard is 600 Supersport - no matter what country you come from. |

Aussies from down under to emulate? Mick is THE MAN!
I would love to have seen Doohan and Lawson go at it if they could have both been at the top of their game at the same time. YEEEOWWW! DAWG FIGHT... DAWG FIGHT! Last edited by Redneck; 11 Oct 2001 at 15:39. |
