WTCC 2007 News, Rumours, Entries...

In a related sportscar thread http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...t=76233&page=1

someone claims to have very reliable sources confirming Honda will field a full Works team in '07, to be run by JAS?? So JAS's hardwork will (eventually) payoff?

I found Honda entering 2 teams in F1, then works team in WTCC, 3 teams in the 3 Le Man Series and staying in the Super GT and IRL all at the same time rather too hard to believe.

I know Honda is rich but this really is just too much.

With a growing interest from Asia in WTCC this new doesn´t surprise me. And i think Honda wouldn´t need to spend too money with JAS, without official support they have a very good car.

Ironically the Accord (Euro-R version) used in the WTCC looks much different (& much better) than the Thai version that is marketed in most Asian countries...

You are right:

European Accord
Japanese Accord (same as European?)
Thai Accord
US Accord

The "Thai" and US version of the Accord are ugly.

Good new, but Prodrive was rumoured with Chrysler/Dodge. Does it mean that we can lose Dodge?

I'd love to see both Honda and Mazda have a good factory backed at it. And maybe Nissan/Mitsubishi/Subaru et al may come in for a crack in the future too.

I loved the old Accord (http://www.purehonda.com/cool/euro/tr1.jpg) not so keen on the newer one.

I think the new Euro Accord (NA Acura TSX) is a worthy successor to the past ST one. I think the current NA Honda Accord (Japanese market "Inspire") is ugly.

I really like the Honda Accord driven by Tarquini and Walfish in ETCC 2001 I think. But the one driven in the WTCC this year wasn't bad too!

Anyways I really hope JAS will run the Honda Works team as im a huge fan of their team and cars!

'07 WTCC speculation/rumors???

Maxi Auto Sport reports this week rumours about the next year WTCC schedule. It seems WTCC will have more "travels" in 2006.

The championship would begin in America and it would finish in Asia. Brazil and Mexico in America and Singapore and Macau in Asia. Other new track would be Pau (France), and being France the country with two WTCC rounds (Pau+Magny?).
There is a rumour talking about a race in Moscow (well, 80km from Moscow), perhaps to get Lada entering finally. Speaking about the Russian manufacturer they should hit the track at Valencia WTCC round this year.

Maxi Auto Sport reports others manufacturers: Nissan, Mazda and Toyota (ehem, not big news).
Alfa Romeo could be with official cars in 2007: Alfa Romeo 147 S2000. Why? its substitute isn´t ready.

Comments? So much travels seem a bit dangerous for budgets.

has Singapore sign contract with KSO?And may be Magny could be cancelled?
And I guess more current venue may removed while 11 events limited in Regulation(for sure ,it can be change)

Which model of Nissan is avilable?Primera has been gone to Meseum and no newape anymore
Would Toyota use IS series?they only got 2.5L and 3.0L

In Europe the Avensis has a 2.0 16v VVT-i engine with standard 108 kW and bore x stroke = 86.0 x 86.0 mm.

Toyota is not big news? Why not? Toyota hasn't publicly expressed much interest in S2000? I don't recall reading any rumors about them? They just have the DTC Corollas (importer supported?) And in Japan, they have some endurance racing prev generation IS200s or Altezzas? Could Nissan be racing their new Sunny(??)

About Nissan. Their American brand Infiniti will be launched in Europe in 2008. So maybe Infiniti instead of Nissan? But because they have only 3.5L or bigger engines a WTCC project is unlogical (DTM?).

At the moment I think Honda will return as factory team (announced by the KSO CEO some months ago), Alfa Romeo (I hope 159) and maybe Mazda (N.Technology?) and/or Lexus (or will they join DTM?). I think the LADA project can be put on the same list as Skoda and Brilliance. With Peugeot building a LMP for Le Mans I expect no bigger WTCC involvement by this French manufacturer.

And what about Dodge rumours ? They are in Europe already, and Caliber (avaiable with 2.0 engine) seems to suit S 2000 well.

Pau instead of Magny is a good idea. Two rounds in France makes no sense.

Indeed we must not forget Dodge. But I don't think a sort of SUV/MPV like the Caliber is suited for touring car racing. Or is Dodge launching a saloon in Europe this of next year?
