MG Trophy on Men & Motors
On telly at the moment. After the "grumble, grumble why couldn't they film my series...", it's some of the most entertaining racing I've seen on telly for ages (though some of the driving standards leave a bit to be desired ). Club racing IS great on telly - we make loads of mistakes, which makes it great to watch

Just spotted it whilst zapping and stayed to watch it all. Decent camera coverage including a few well selected on boards; good insight; good racing - great to see it on the telly! I need to keep an eye out for the second part of the championship!

The 'MG Trophy' is an MG Car Club Championship, administered by Peter Browning the Competition Secretary of the MG Car Club based at Abingdon. It has been running for a couple of years now and has always produced some very exciting racing right through the field.
This Championship is running again in 2005 but will be known as the 'MG X Power Trophy' which will include a double header at Spa. I hope that this clears up any confusion. Merry Christmas to you all, John Watson - Chief Marshal - MG Car Club Last edited by John Watson; 24 Dec 2004 at 21:08. |

I'd guess it was paid for by MG-Rover - and it was a good reflection on them.
And think many of us could produce this sort of footage (must be a dozen plus in Grads who carry cameras) - it's just getting the circuits to allow it to be shown and someone to show it. |

Why should it cost that much? Many of us could produce something similar with video editing software on our PCs, I'm sure... (In fact< i'd guess many clubs do for private use). It's just getting it on TV.
Oh and BTW topwelsman, you want to buy a Grads-spec Caterham |

A) doubtful it would be broadcast quality
B) somone has to pay the circuits C) somone has to pay the TV channel (what you thought that was free?) |

It was great to watch a championship I've followed throughout the season (even seeing THAT incident at Cadwell with the marshals post exploding on impact with a TF in the highlights!).
My only criticism is the commentary wasn't, in my opinion, very good - it seemed to lack the excitement and knowledge I feel you need for a race commentary - the style seemed more suitable perhaps to rally coverage. Still, it is a big step forward for club racing - hopefully we can get a couple of the other MG championships as well next year! |

I think Hay Fisher charge £4,000 per race to film, edit, pay circuit and arrange to be put on TV.
So if you had a championship with 30 drivers like most Caterham championships it would cost you £133 per person to have a copy of a race and it be on Sky. |

Surely all the DIY and fishing programmes on Sky are produced commercially and are paid for. |

correct Steve,
If the programme/race is good enough they will show if for free. They will also buy series to show etc. But if you had a one off race they would include it in the World Motor sports show for free. |
