Sad news
His classic commentary will always live on though, particularly as more and more archive material gets released. |

Sad news indeed.
Mike is my childhood memories of Bathurst. Thoughts are with his family & friends... Mike will live on in the memories of all Australian motor sport fans & every replay of Bathurst in the 70's/80's. |

For me, hearing his voice is as synonymous with that era as hearing Fanfare for the Common Man. Both take me instantly back to Those Great Days.
RIP, and condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. |

So very, very sad.
Made Australian TV motorsport commentary what it is - informative and entertaining with the odd funny gaffe. Used do see him mowing his lawn sometimes. I guess I'll stop looking for him every time I drive past his house, now. Kramer |

The sound of Bathurst from my childhood. He really bought colour and life to motorsport in a way no others have before or since
I look back on coverage from Evan Greene and find it quite boring by comparison |

Some great childhood memories from Mike. Such a shock that we lost him quite sudden and rather young. A fond memory is this one with Dick Johnson:

Don’t forget that he was heavily involved in the now defunct Liverpool Speedway, back when speedway was drawing big crowds.
Don’t forget his catchcry for the tv commercials when the Big Ed Wilbur lead USA sedan team came out to Australia - the no hankee pankee yankee’s up against the Australians at place of pace Liverpool Speedway! Horsepower reigns at Symmons Plains. Some of his old Liverpool Speedway commercials are on YouTube. |

I can still hear the radio ad for Liverpool speedway
The place of pace, Frank Oliveri's left hand turn freeway, BE THERE! The man had a way with words as I cannot remember anymore of the ad, just that one line. And yes we were there. |

He brought a lot to the sport and gave it plenty too - on top of that gave us the soundtrack for a lengthy era, always thinking ahead too.
RIP Mike Raymond - you'll be fondly missed by many many thousands of people. |

His gift of the gab was remarkable, and his wit was legendary.

Jewelled was the intro music for the “Top Gear RAC Rally Reports” on the BBC in the mid-80s (actually they still used it through the 90s) ATN7 used Jewelled from 1986-1989, then moved to Fanfare in 1990 as that became the entire 7 Network sports theme |

Just watching V8 Classics Vol 2, with the touring car round at Bathurst must be 1994. Mike starts chatting to Dick Johnson just as the rear wing fails on the Falcon at the chase.
