Rocketsports to Test Pastorelli at Milwaukee

The possibility of Nicky Pastorelli making his Champ Car debut in next month's Houston race is gaining momentum as Rocketsports Racing announced that the Dutchman will test with the squad at the Milwaukee oval tomorrow. Pastorelli, 23, tested with Rocketsports at Portland earlier this month. The Milwaukee sessions, set to be attended by all '06 rookies, will mark his first time in an oval track.

“I am curious to see what it is like driving on an oval,” he said. “I have never raced on an oval in my career, so this will be a first for me."

Apparently the team Brazil thing didn't go well...so Pizzonia is out of the CCWS and it seems Pastorelli is in..

Paul Gentilozzi posted at CCF earlier today that Rocketsports are still working on getting sponsorship for Pizzonia in the 2nd seat at that team.

It could be between 1 Rocketsports car and 0 Rocketsports cars - the team is pretty low on sponsorship right now, with Glock and DHL having gone.

Nicky seems to be pretty useful, he's been close to F1 for a couple of years.

There seem to be Italian names everywhere in motor racing - Pastorelli, Franchitti, the younger Andrettis, Kiesa, Fitipaldi, Barrichello.... none of whom are from Italy itself.

Rocketsports Racing announced it has signed Nicky Pastorelli to run in its No. 8 entry for the balance of the 2006 Champ Car World Series. After being a guest of the team at the season opener in Long Beach, the 23-year-old Italo-Dutch driver tested for Rocketsports at Portland and Milwaukee, with results satisfactory enough to convince the squad to sign him up for the remainder of the season. Rocketsports opened the year at Long Beach with Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia in its car.

“I am very excited to join the Rocketsports Racing team,” said Pastorelli. “I have enjoyed working with the team and getting to know them, along with the car. They have helped me out a lot and I know that I can learn a lot this season by working with them.”
