GP2 Silverstone

Gonna be away tomorrow, so lets start it now.

Hoping for a good weekend for Ryan, after the difficult season so far, AC should do well also, 100,000 fans for each has to be an advantage!

Silverstone GP2 free practice report (+results)

Adam Carroll has finished this morning's free practice session as the quickest GP2 series driver, on his home circuit.

source: GP2Series.com

Adam Carroll has set the pace at what is effectively his home race with a time of 1:34.067, just ahead of Scott Speed and Gimmi Bruni.

Carroll claimed the time just before the conclusion of the session, driving impressively quickly on well used tyres. With conditions slightly overcast but warming the pace was quick from the outset, and Bruni topped the early times with a lap of 1:34.549.

Speed, not to be outdone, came back with a time two tenths faster, and looked set to keep the top spot until two minutes before the end, when Carroll's name flashed onto the screens just above the American, who ran out of fuel in the closing minutes.

Hiroki Yoshimoto, second in race two last week in France, was the last man on track as he team tinkered with his car, but was finally able to get out for a trouble free run. The same could not be said for his teammate Ernesto Viso, who suffered a number of spins throughout the session.

As usual the times were remarkably close between most of the drivers, with one second splitting the first eleven and two seconds covering 22 of the 24 cars on the grid.

I finally had a look at the GP2 website to see an interesting picture on there.

keke rosberg and nelson Piquet on pole for the 1985 British GP and now today their sons line up side by side for the GP2 event 20 years later

Hopefully a good weekend for Nelsinho... surely Magny Cours wasn't so great for him.

Ah it was heartbraking to see my favourite not being able to start this race! It could have been so great to see him compete againt Rosberg. Again many points for Rosberg and Kovalainen... it gets kinda boring.

Why must Eurosport/Eurosport 2 always cut away before the podium? They know roughly how long the race is going to last.

Good to have Martin Haven back though. It's the subtle asides like his mention of "Herbert's Trench" that show he has a genuine interest and commitment to the sport, unlike certain other commentators...

And this morning a first win for Olivier Pla.

Good drive.

And good to have commentary from Martin and Gareth Rees, rather than Carlton Kirby.

Can someone post the post-Silverstone points standings?

The GP2 site doesn't appear to show standings and the Formula-2 site hasn't updated since Germany.

Thanks.

Are you compiling the info yourself? Are you aware of a site that is posting updated standings?

Again, many thanks.

Sharp retired after a few laps in race one and was thus down the back in race two.

Gaz should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
First race over the weekend was dire...I left after 20 laps....the second race yesterday morning was excellent though. Reversing the grids may not seem the right thing to do if your a "pure racing" fan but it certainly spiced things up and made yesterday's race much more entertaining!

I have to say yes Ryan Sharp retired both races with mechanical troubles but his pace was never there all weekend and hasn't on the whole at previous meetings either. I think now he's up against the real stars of the future rather than the average joes he's raced against in recent seasons he's getting put in his place I'm afraid.

You know I will gaz - im going to disagree with you on this one, the car has never realy been working proplerly all season, so Ryan has never had a real chance to show his pace.

Spoke to Gareth Rees on the saturday in the GP2 Paddock, very nice chap I have to say

All the cars are the same Kidzer and well....his team mate did OK yesterday to be fair!

Sorry, I think he's OK but thats it...he was beaten by many better drivers during his time in Renault UK and after 2 years racing relatively inferior competition he's finding life hard again with the big boys!

According to the entry list his nationality was Finnish and the entrant was listed as French.
