2012 BMW M3 DTM car
in case anyone has not seen it yet....a test version of the new BMW DTM car and the new shape for all dtm cars has appeared o nrace car engineering.....
I dont know whether i should just post the photo or direct you to Sam Collins website. http://www.racecar-engineering.com/n...-dtm-revealed/ My question is...Is this suppose to resemble the current Super GT or the current DTM. Or is it a hybrid? What exaclt yhas been said about this car... Engine wise as well? |

Reminds me rather a lot of the old Lister Storm...

It has a common carbon monocoque and roll cage. Less aerodynamics, more mechanical grip with wider 280front and 310rear tyres. 4L V8 engine. Hybrids and downsized engines to come in two-three years.

Its no less a touring car than the current DTM cars, which look hideous in my opinion.

This car is built in accordance with new 2012 tech specs.
And what is that 'touring car' now?Who can tell? Prototype engine - NGTC or RML, Lehmann. Special suspension with different from serial joint points, arms and geometry - WTCC. What is that 'touring'? All that is as 'touring' as DTM is, where they have serial steel roof and serial pillars. |

How much do these things cost compared to a S2000 BMW for instance?

Nobody knows how much a current DTM car would cost. But I remember Dr. Ulrich saying that the Seat WTCC program wasn't that much cheaper than the Audi DTM program.

As long as a program can be run for less than a prototurtle, it'll be a hit in at leAst one place.

Nooooo! The current cars look superb (although they could lose the little winglets without anyone crying). They also sound sooooo much better than the S2000 cars. Also flame spitting cars are good and should be encouraged

Current cars cost up to 800.000 euro - almost as expensive as GT500 cars. This can explain why drivers have to avoid contacts.
New regulations (common monocoque) will help to halve that sum. It should cost about 450.000 euro. Somewhere near current GT2. |

Coupé = GT
Not far from a Grand-Am Rolex GT Prep 2. |

Very far, actually... GA Prep 2 is only stell tubeframe, whereas the new DTM-cars are based on a fullwidth carbonfibre tub (think whirlpool rather than bathtub) onto which the stell tube frame is grafted...
And of course Rolex GT only allows relatively minor bodywork modicifactions, whereas that new BMW has a veritable widebody kit.... |

IMO rules like prep2 would be better.

In the latest auto motor und sport issue there is a small info about the BMW rollout in Oschersleben including a new picture (different angle). At least it's new for me. I could scan the article and post it but I don't know if this is allowed here.
