Strakka LMP1 discussion
Strakka have announced the development of a new LMP1 car for 2017. They will switch to a Gibson LMP2 car for the rest of the WEC season, as the Dome becomes a test mule for the new LMP1 car.

gret move! also because lmp2 monocoques are made with the same specs of lmp1! as kolles shown, is not so hard to convert an lmp2 in lmp1 with a decent budget. Beyond that, in good hands the zytek is much more competitive than the dome strakka

The ACO needed a good news story after they started carving into P2 and they just got one.

Happy
MORE AWESOME P1 PRIVATEERS THANK YOU STRAKKA FOR NOT DIRTYING YOUR ARSE WITH THE P2 SPEC MADNESS YEEEESSSSSS Sad Bye bye Dome from actual competition Funny In the Autosport version of that article Walmsley still calls it 'LMP1-L' category (which is honestly still pretty much still is technically) Interesting They're surely aiming for the record on team switching LMP categories in least number of years! Well this is what the ACO were hoping would happen ... but however it's come about I'm genuinely pleased a quality team is making the leap to P1.

Now, if Rebellion remain commited, and SARD and/or Greaves move to LMP1 with Gibson, we could have a really nice LMP1 privateer class in 2017.

In which case the actual Dome chassis now may well not be eligible to race, but certainly purposeful as a test hack. Good that the P1 privateer class is beginning to see some expansion. |

So that Dome car did the grand total of 3 races after a year spent/wasted developing it?

Well, I'm glad that Strakka will be a part of LMP1 again, and to be honest I'm not that sad they're ditching the Dome. It clearly didn't make sense to spend any more money on it, at least as a P2 chassis. I guess they'll try to use the current monocoque in the new car.
And how many races did the S101 do? ;-) |

If racingsportscars.com is to be believed (and why would they not be):
87 races (9 wins, 71% finishing ratio) With one of the chassis, acording to Jan Lammers, being a sieve due to the number of holes drilled in to it over the years it was in use to provide for repairs and updates |

Well, at least Strakka will return to the top class but it's sad that Dome won't join in!

Just a question, what types of things can they actually use the Dome to test? Engine, tranny, suspension, bodywork? Will the new tub be close enough to the Dome that this makes sense?

Glad to see a team with ambitions, happy about that.
What I don't understand is the rush, the current P2s are allowed in WEC until 2017 so 2,5 more years (3,5 if you would opt to go ELMS in '18). Unless the Dome is really not that great. And no mentioning about 2016 at all, you would think they'll use the Gibson then as well (???). On a sidenote: If IMSA would have gone their own way with a more liberal set of prototype rules without constructor limitations, I feel Strakka would have been game to go racing Stateside. I also have the feeling SMP/BR engineering will make a similar move in due course. |

As it is they only mention 3D printing to reduce costs, which in itself tells you they would like to save money on manufacturing. The most expensive item is the tub. |

I think Oreca 05 is the only one in line with the new width. But don't quote me on that. |

Couldn't they develop the stillborn LMP1 S103?
