What points system in 04????
I havn't heard or read anything about the points system for this year?
With the much debated system used in 03, one would assume things will be revised for this year... Can anyone provide any info? Cheers. |

No doubt AVESCO will think up a system even more complicated & have everyone totally confused two races in to the season.

Hi All
The 2004 points system is now on the AVESCO website (in section D of the regulations). There is no dropping of worst round (YAY ), but the points seem the same as last year (192 max per round). Also, the format for the Main event has changed (in Section A), no full field shootout(back to top 10), and 3 races over the weekend (1x100km Sat, and 2x150km Sun). The qualifying mark is still 105% except for endurance rounds where it is 107%. Also, looks like all 35 cars can come to Pukekohe this year. Last edited by Tracy; 13 Feb 2004 at 10:14. |

I think I'll just let the CHannel 10 Commentary team (whoever that will comprise) explain it as we go...

Its **** anyway
Top 15 cars should score points and the rest should strive to get there. |

That's what i reckon. The CART point system would be a good start.

Still doesn't reward someone for having a go though. It's killing the good racing..

Having a go is what the whole field is doing, so you have no arguement there, if you think that position 32 is not having a go your watching different races than me.

COuple of things come out of this.
Any point score that doesn't have a reasonable margin between positions will start to produce monotonous racing - because there is no incentive to pass. Second - Section 1.1.4.1 - has only recently been changed - so much for AVESCO claiming they have been tied in for some time to using only a CAMS licenced track: Quote:

i think they should just give points to the top ten.
1st - 20points 2nd - 15points 3rd - 10points 4th - 8points 5th - 6points 6th - 5points 7th - 4points 8th - 3points 9th - 2points 10th- 1point pole position in shootout = 4 points now that would make the races and shootouts exciting |

No more than they are now. Technical or rule changes only will bring better racing.

How about
100 first 80 second 60 third 40 fourth 30 fifth 25 sixth 24 seventh 23 eigth etc etc At least the top six would have a major insentive. |

Of all the point scoring systems in use around the world I believe the IRL have got the best. IE incentive to pass at the pointy end + Incentive to fight for points down the field

I always wonder why all championships dont run on some sort of standardised points system.....wouldnt it make it easier on us fans, and give everyone a more understandable comparison between drivers?

I have NEVER been in favour of any point scoring system that gives points for passing, leading etc - they are the hardest systems to keep track of and at the end of a race meeting, unless everything is absolutely spot on, leads to confusion.

I agreed with the points system mainly, although I think 2 points (or 1) is more appropriate for pole.

Perhaps save the tyres might be more appropriate

You can suggest that, but if the point spread is such that the difference between say, 11th and 10th is only 1 or 2 points, then quite often (and this is what currently happens) a driver will take it easy on the car and not risk damage or being punted out.

Keep the current system in place, they got rid of the stupid drop rouund scenario, so even #10 can work out who is where in the points.
In the end, the best team with the highest championship position in outright and worst-round-dropped won 2003. This means the organisers were lucky |

Give one point for a win and that is it.
Let the driver with the most wins get the championship. Then we would see some passing! |
