Quote -----------------------------------------------------------Looking forward is something Briatore does very well -- almost as well as his political movements. Accordingly, it seems he is in the process of placing the current British F3 series leader Antonio Pizzonia in Formula One for 2001. With Supertec engines as leverage, the Benetton boss is in a position to leverage a seat at Arrows next season; if it appears to be a better posting, he is also considering a Supertec supply to Prost (who, ironically, would appear to be better of with customer Renault engines than the works Peugeot unit). The French team is getting frantic to close one of the three deals it is currently negotiating, so the simple price of replacing one novice with another to ensure its survival would be considered a necessary evil. Benetton are looking to replace Wurz for 2001 - the Austrian has not performed as well as anyone hoped, including the driver himself. Pizzonia is under consideration: young, talented, and with experience in testing, he could prove a valuable asset. However, his sheer race experience is inadequate in the opinion of most pundits, so a spell in a "learning" environment would be a good stepping stone to a front running team. Arrows are in danger of appearing to become a "Benetton junior" if they accept the youngster, but it would provide them with a proven engine supply for 2001. ---------------------------------------------------------- Interesting eh? Opinions? |
