A most interesting race, an excellent result for a change. Poor Mika, a tough break for him. An excellent drive for Coulthard, considering the start. I don't think it should have been Michaels race, McLarens last stop for Mika was excellent, and he had really pushed during the time between Michaels stop and his own, so had earned the lead.

For the first time in ages I sat cheering Mika on to beat TGF... and then THAT happens... I'm gutted for Mika but at the same time, if he can smile about it, so can I. And it's nice to see a Williams and (I suppose... grrr...) a BAR on the podium...

Why couldn't TGF have failed to finish
1)...MONTOYA 2)...VILLENEUVE 3)...TRULLI Mika should have eased up once he saw TGF struggling |

What EERO said.
Although I am glad to see 2 new (relatively) faces on the podium, I am wondering how much TCS had to do with Montoya's 2nd. He did drive a good race, but was slower than Villeneuve in his first stint, and again towards the end. Anyhow, Jacques and Juan owe their positions to the misfortunes of others, but then, that is racing, and Schumacher, Villeneuve and Montoya have all been in Hakkinen's position before. |

Oh, look, I KNOW I'm replying to my own topic, but, hey!! Don't you just love F1?? Just when you think "nah, this race is a bit boring"...... BOOM!!
It smells of Mansell this doesn't it, or Hill at the Hungaroring. Last lap, cruising to victory, your rival concked out and touring home. Only for your engine to give up. Poor Mika. But he was waving to the crowd and stuff, so he didn't exactly look distraught. He said: "super dissapointing! God damn it, Jesus! But hey, it doesn't really matter" C'est la vie. Ron Dennis: "it's unfortunate, but we out performed Ferrari on strategy, so we have to take the good points". But hang on, Ferrari had you on the RACK, Hakinnen wasn't even CLOSE to Schumi untill TGF's problems. TGF: "I feel simply sorry [for Mika]. We did a great race, but to see [Mika} retiring is just shocking, I went to see him. It's NOT the way you want to win the race, but there's nothing I can do about that. My problem was with my tires. I was going slowly to avoid a tyre exploding (what!!??), but I tried to speed up in the last few laps" Oh, and DC did himself good after being rather silly at the start. Could he have won if he hadn't had his problems? Wasn't he in the spare car? BTW: TC, that was a load of hype over nothing. NOTHING CHANGED!! Rumour has it Willy weren't even USING it, and still JPM finishes 2nd! |

Williams were using launch control as Montoya said as well as some sort of traction control which could explain Ralf's gearbox problem as well as Montoya's relative slow pace compared to the others.
Mika really did deserve to win. But thats racing. Lucky win for Schumacher and equally lucky 2nd and 3rd places for Montoya and Villuneuve. They should all celebrate though, 'cos thats part of the game. |

I'm just sick of everyone saying Mika is past it, when it's completely unfounded to say that. Today's race was a little reminder that Mika never went away - and that he can win the championship. Plus anyone who beats TGF (except Rubens... ) is a star in my book .

Mika most certainly ISN'T past it, is he?? Utterly sickening for that to happen to someone, but hey, he took it on his chin and seemed to take it very well in the post race interviews.
However, EERO, TGF did pit FIRST, and, given his tyre problems (and traffic) it isn't really any wonder Mika got out ahead of TGF. Ferrari withoput a doubt would have won the race were it not for the tyre problems, and that's not just the tifosi in me talking. What i DID also find upsetting was the crowd clearly in RAPTURES as Mika pulled up. It's all very well cheering a Ferrari win, but at the expense of someone elses mechanical failure?? You don't cheer that. TGF himself seemed very restrained post race, as his quotes say. He was let out of jail free. Ferrari were BLOODY LUCKY today. |

Not to change the subject, but I can see now why we haven't seen the ErjaCam this season yet. Was she wearing a wig? Can't Mika afford to buy her one that looks more like hair?
Anyway, racing is as much luck as planning, and I think there are a lot of bookies out there today who have developed splitting headaches over the way this race turned out. And by the way, it is ILLEGAL for pilots to ride other pilots on their cars. I wonder if McLaren will get penalized for that? |

Suzy's post-race emotions:
Poor Mika! He's so sweet. He'll bounce back though: I will be surprised if he doesn't as he's a tough cookie. Thanks to Michael for being so supportive of Mika in parc ferme and on the podium. I thought Erja looked very elegant - wish Hugo was there too to cuddle his Daddy on return to parc ferme. Somehow, cuddling up to Michael isn't quite the same... Jim Rosenthal should be banned for making repeated suggestions about Mika's alleged psychological state-of-mind. He is the anchorman of ITV - NOT a psychiatrist! Get back to promoting football Jim and let me take over your job! Quite enjoyed the public battle between DC and Ron - wonder how this one will pan out. Looking forward to finding out. Frentzen and de la Rosa - Frentzen clearly misunderstood the meaning of "launch control", but at least nobody was injured. Well done JPM - I knew you'd get on the podium eventually. Nice to see you back JVille - about time we had someone like you in the press conference. Those are my initial thoughts - will be back with something coherent later on. Best wishes Suzy |

10 years of it...when is TGF's never ending good luck end? Lucky with DCs problems at the start, lucky that Rubens' suspension went and not his..and then pure Schumi luck at the end...not to detract from Schumi's evident skill as a driver, but pleeeeaaase...just 1/10th of his luck to some of the other drivers? :~(
