Audi R10 set to retire?
Dailysportscar is reporting that the R10 is to retire after this year, announcement of some sort pending in the next 24 hours. Let's hope that there are plans for a successor of some sort... They feel the car is long in the tooth and won't compete well against the Peugeots or Acura in P1 next year.

By retired, I hope they mean "sold to customers".

I can see one of two results here. Audi either builds a new P1, or focuses efforts elsewhere (GT1.. other type of racing...), as Porsche moves to P1. |

Maybe it's me, but I think the wording of the L'Equipe/DSC piece is strongly suggestive of another P1 effort from Audi with a new chassis.

would not be surprised to see a new coupe audi LMP1, but im quite frustrated, the first 'real' competition since the bentley of 2003 and audi now want to call it quits, rather babyish if you ask me, not unless the R10 will have a big update ala lola B07/10-->B08/60.

lol I think they're both quite beautiful but the more street-like is very unlikely to become reality, looking at all the recent closed-top prototypes, they all have narrow cockpits...
And bringing in a replacement for the R10 because it's not good enough to compete with the 908 is no shame, it's great news for us sportscar fans! It'll add another couple of years to the Audi Le Mans programme and brings us fans another new car to lust over |
