Toyoter should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Toyota in V8 Supercars?

Ahoy all, I'm in the U.S., which means I don't know what the hell's going on down there for the most part. What's the word on Toyota possibly entering the V8 Supercar series? Is this actually a possibility? Can someone give me the dirt?

Not if holden(GM) and ford have anything to do with it. But they are looking at letting in Mizzi's Nissan and who know's maybe toyota.
Welcom to the forum, your are a toyota nut I guess?

What tipped you off?

My love for Toyota began in the late '80's when the AAR Turbo Celicas were dominating the IMSA GTO series here in the US. Since that time, unfortunately, Toyota hasn't been involved in much touring style road-racing except in the JGTC. I would kill to see them become involved in the V8 Supercar series.

By the way, if Toyota *did* enter the series (if they were allowed to?), which model would they use? Doesn't the race car have to be based on a production model? Does Toyota have a V8 of some sort that's sold exclusively in Australia? Would they use the Camry? Also, do any Toyotas run in any of the other touring classes in Australia? If so, does anyone have any links to pics?

Heh, I think that's enough questions for now!

They also have a Lexus V8. It's not a pushrod, but I'm sure they could build some. I think if Mitsu got involved, Toyota may want a piece of the action.

yes mitsubishi have the Magna in the V8 class that runs with the super tourers , (sorry dont know what they are calling it this week) its a nice looking car too , I saw it at Winton last year and it looked and sounded great but wasnt that reliable I think it broke down in both the races that day.

I will make this a short blurb cause it's a Aussie forum and not a Nascar forum, but after 2-3 years, Toyota now is doing quite well in the Nascar Goody Dash series racing their Celica. So, technically, you can say Toyota is racing in Nascar, just not the Top Wiston Cup or Busch division!

So how can the Magna race in the V8 Supercar series since Mitsubishi doen't have a pushrod car? I believe it is running on Holden running gear. So how can that be legal?

im not sure what the Magna is running , but yes they dont have a pushrod engine which has been part of the problem all along, I do believe however they were looking at ways around this problem but Im not sure how far this has progressed.

But they plan to use a Chrysler engine in V8 Supercar. Fair enough - Holden use Chev, Mitsu can use Chrysler - it's all part of the same umbrella.

So the Magna must be running b/c of the rule waiver? Or is there some other loophole Mitsubishi is using? So is the Magna a Works, semi-works or totally privateer entry?

The Magna runs in Future Touring, not V8Supercars, and is a private team, though does receive some Ralliart backing. It runs the control engine, a Holden V8, like all cars have to (except the Fords)
