Jag/Ford Money matters

Found this snippet quite interesting, although it still doesn't explain why Ford are penny pinching. What do they mean by "expensive retooling "?

Re-tooling is changing the factories/production lines for new models.

Jaxs has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
it's all about rationlisation of sourcing. Instead of making, say, six different engines for different brands to use one engine in different output spec to suit the various needs.

I will qualify this statement by saying that my wife works in a Ford dealership.....but they have the most bland, basic, unoriginally styled cars available today. This is why their market share continues to drop. Most of a dealers money is made in service and parts, luckily Fords require a lot of this! It is probably this, and their financial (credit) arm, that keeps this bloated bird in the air. It's certainly not their revolving door management!
And Jaguar F1 suffers as a result.

What you need is a few Australian Fords...

We certainly don't want them ....

David.

Could have only come from a Holden man
The BA's are good looking machines compared to some other offerings.Go better than the Holdens anyway.

Don't get me wrong,
The new GT's look nice, it is just a shame they can't spell Holden ;-)

That ford money article doesn't really give any hints as to what ford might do about the jag team in future.

Sure thay are having problems but that looks like it's being worked out
They can probably quite easily afford to run the jag team indefinitely but it really pretty much depends on wether they WANT to continue with the team

I can imagine that this year might be a decision point.
In the past when they are having a hard time they could say
'hey,we just need time-you can't buy success overnight'.
But now with so many things going wrong (losing a fast driver and a big sponser)and STILL no success i wouldn't be surprised to see them give up

I'm not into cars much these days but i must say that the new fords at least look pretty good .
I don't know how on earth the company survived in OZ with the styling of the last main model
What REALLY scares me is that we got used to it!! The V8 race cars even looked good i thought-how sad is that?

Basically Ford have money to make themselves look like a bunch of fools in F1 but no money to make a Commitment to WRC, People in here that read the Rallying section know my feelings on Ford on the merits of F1 Vs. WRC.

The money Ford spend on motorsport is a drop in the ocean, compared to the business as a whole.

Interesting about the "you can't buy success" comment... Just how much did the Stewart team change when it was re-branded ?

And a second point, even if Ford do pull the plug on the Jag team, will they build/supply engines for the other teams...?

David

I reckon they could and should remain an engine supplier if they pull the pull on the Jag F1 effort, at least they won't make a complete tit of themselves that way!!
