The return of mixed surface rallies??

From www.worldrallynews.com

The FIA World Rally Commission is to discuss a proposal that mixed surface rallies be used in the WRC. Mixed surfaces were a feature of rallying up to the '90s when teams complained about the cost and logistical complexity. Centralised servicing has now reduced the need to transport large quantities of spares around the countryside.

So would mixed surfaces be a good thing?, or would the compromises on setup lead to problems?

We should absolutely have mixed surfaces, even within a single stage! It's what rallying's _supposed_ to be about!

Looking forward to seeing a Peugot tailsliding off a country tarmac road onto a logging trail.

Apparently the World Rally Championship Commission were not taken with the mixed surface idea and so it looks like at least one current tarmac rally will be dropped from the Championship by 2004.

The Monte, Germany and Corsica are thought to be ok so it could be Catalonia and Sanremo that must change/go.If this is the case it is more likely that an alternate venue is found for the Italian round, possibly in Sardinia or Tuscany.

I would love to see mixed surface events back. Wouldn't it be great if the RAC was still how it iwas, on the tarmac on day 1, into the forests from day 2 onwards.

Also up until 1996 the San Remo was mixed, hopefully it could go back to that.

Belgian magazine Autonews reported in their latest issue that Spain might switch to a mixed surface in the near future.

That lil part of Finland with tarmac looked good although I would like to see the dedicated tarmac events stay, becuse the cars look soooooo good on tarmac, being lower, bigger rims, rubber band tyres, and theyre so clean!
