Ferrari in GT

I couldn't find a Ferrari thread, so sorry if I missed it.

New Ferrari F8 Tributo announced as replacement for 488. It seems like the 488 has only been on track for a couple of years but I guess this will be replacing it soon.

The 488 GTE and GT3 debuted in early 2016. I would estimate the F8 Tributo would be launched in 2020.

There will be 7 Ferraris in the 2019 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup.


The only Pro Cup entry is the #72 SMP.


There will be 3 Ferraris in the 2019 Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe, none in the Pro Cup.

The 2019 Suzuka 10 Hours entry list has 3 Ferrari 488 GT3:
  • HubAuto Corsa has one Pro entry.
  • apr with ARN Racing has one Silver entry for Hiroaki Nagai, Manabu Orido and Yuta Kamimura.
  • CarGuy Racing has one entry with class to be determined.

Autosport web is reporting Ferrari 488 GTE's throttle off indicator system.
Ferrari 488 GTE has a throttle off indicator system to help good fuel consumption drive.
For example, when approaching 300 m before the Mulsanne corner, this display lights up and orders the driver to lift and coast.

Ferrari 488GTE's winker switch has an another function.
If you push winker switch, it will become "anti lock" mode.
This is officially a brake balance adjustment function, but acts substantially as a "prohibited" ABS.
It can control the engine and prevent brake lock.

And Ferrari 488GTE equips with a sensor that detects cars coming from behind.
It is an LED light on the left and right of tachometer, and it can know whether it is overtaking from right or left.
It turns green, yellow and red as the car approaches.

Interesting information. The fuel economy on the 488GTE was sadly bop'd away but it definitely is very 'lean'.

quite reasonable since GTE class is reaching a stagnation status... a further heavy investment would be worthless. But also because there isn't a suitable successor since SF90 stradale is closer to an hypercar

from a certain point of view the GTE program is already ended or however in the final stage, reading between the lines they will only focus on producing spare parts until 2022 + support to WEC/ELMS pro and pam teams (+ a couple of peanuts for risi).
Wonder if they will use F8 tributo platform for 2023 GT3

It surely can't sound worse than a 488, the most boring sounding racing car in the history of racing cars.

I wonder if the Hypercar engine will be related to this, even just the layout (120 deg V)?

The only thing I don't like about 296 is that it has a modern design on front and rear but a retro 250LM inspired side that doesn't fit at all IMHO. It seems also that it wasn't an april fish that ferrari will cooperate with a new technical partner instead of michelotto (oreca? they were in charge of viper gts, viper comp coupè and second gen of saleen S7R).

I assume that's because Michelotto will have their hands full with the LMH cars. Perhaps that even suggests plans for customer LMHs!
