Missing March Sprint and Hillclimb Cars of the 70s
I need help in identifying the following MARCH cars:
a) 1975 to 1976 - Terry Smith - March 733 - Who owned it prior to Smith? Plus was this the car which then found its way to Geoff Hunt? b) 1976 - David Franklin - March 742 - this car was upgraded to 772 spec in 1977. It then went to Alan Richards in 1978. Anyone know who owned or raced it prior to Frankers? c) 1976 to 1977 - Martyn Griffiths - March 74B - this car was given the Pilbeam treatment. But where did it come from? d) 1977 - Allan Humphries - March 772 - is this the right model type? Was it in fact a 722? Better still where did it come from? e) 1978 to 1979 - Allan Humphries - March 762 - again where did this car come from? f) 1978 to 1979 - Richard Lester - March 722/73B - whose car was this prior to Richard driving it? g) 1978 to 1979 - Ted Williams - March 772/782 - a succession of cars led to this March, where did it come from? h) 1976 to 1979 - Peter Fisk - March 702 - was this the ex-Martin Steele car? i) FINALLY the following driver/car combinations appeared in 1979. Where did all these cars come from? 1. Ray Rowan - March 742 2. Ken Ayers - March 752/76B 3. Tony Westwood - March 772P 4 Terry Smith - March 761 (with 5.0 Repco V8) Any and all help will be appreciated |

Isn't Humpries' 772 a one-off appearance in the record just before his 762? If so, I'm sure you can cross that out and write in 762.
He had two 762s (at least), one of which was used to rebuild his 761-GA after its accident. Allen |

a) Originally Mike Wilds in F3 and, yes, I believe the Geoff Hunt car
b) reportedly the works/Depailler spare. Norrie Galbraith after Richards c) the ex-Cramer "Grunhalle Lager Special" f) STP/Lauda, then various Irish owners. Or did Lester have more than one 722/73B? g) Ricardo Zunino 1977 |

The Martyn Griffiths 74B was the Grunhalle Lager Special? I thought this was a 722? Thanks for the rest of the info. |

I can't be 100% sure, as my notes were taken at the time, almost certainly from contemporay Autosport reports.
However, they describe Cramer's 1973 Grunhalle Lager Special sometimes as a '72/73B' and sometimes as a 733 (or were there two 1973 cars?) But the 1974 car was apparently a new one, 74B-7, the car which later went to Griffiths. |

I agree David, I think the Cramer 74 car was a real 74B, he kept it into 75, then got the 76A for 76. Griffiths had it for 76-77, don't know after.
Steve, the Westwood '772P' was NOT I'm sure a real 772P (unless it was de Dryver '778', which seems to have diasappeared after 1977). It could have been anything I guess, and may have been transformed into the '79B' he used in Atlantic in 1980. Or that may have been an ex Douglkas a& Gavin 782... Re the Smith 761, wasn't that the ex-Jones/Magee/Edwards 75A-761 that had a GA, then a DFV in ??? Btw, anyone know what happened to the other 76A, ie the one raced in US F5000 in 1976 ?? |

If it helps, I noted the chassis plate on Cramer's at Harewood in 1973 as 723-12, supposedly ex-Jarier.

The Cramer 74B is in the copied build record as "C.Cramer: White/Lightweight hillclimb special" Chassis 7.
723-12 then went to South East Asia for Percy Chan. Williams' car 772 -6 if F1R to be believed on Zunino's driving it. Lester's car 772-5 if ex Lauda [went via Robert Cooper to Diarmuid McFeeley and now in Australia] |

The other 76A became a Can-Am car around 1978/79 and has since vanished.
