Ark Sprite - Info & photos sought
A friend of mine owns this car nowadays which is a spaceframe sportsracer with a Sprite sihlouette body and powered by a Lotus Twincam. Originally buit by Ark Racing in Darlaston (in the West Midlands) the car ran in Group 6 form as I understand it at both the Nurburgring and Jarama in 1970, placed 2nd in the Birkett also in 1970 and then went one better by winning that event in '71.
Does anyone have any more info on the car, its owners etc or any photos? Many thanks in advance. |

I'm sure if you google arksprite or ark racing you will come to an history link that will give some info. A friend of mine used to own the vehicle,he bought it when it had been changed to a Reliant Kitten hillclimb car. he then converted it back to a sprite with quite a bit of help from ark racing. I will contact my friend so that he can make contact with you.

I'm sure I remember seeing it race at Brands during Mike Scott's ownership in the early 90's. Don't know if I took any photos of it, but I'll have a look.
Slightly off-topic- the history on www.arkracing.com describes Mike Scott as a 'regular Lydden saloon competitor'- a distinctive green Anglia in the late 80's/early 90's, just before the Ark Sprite comes to mind, or am I thinking of someone else altogether? |

That's the Mike Scott, a good friend of mine. Raced an Anglia at Lydden and Brands and a 1000cc Brabham I believe and more recently has raced the Ark Sprite, a Gropa and now a Martin FAt/F2 in the Derek Bell Trophy.

Hi
I raced the Ark Sprite originally with John Banks. We drove our team to Jarama in a Thames 15cwt van and competed along side the works Porsches. Got as far as 9th overall when a front upright broke. Those were the days!! Chris Smith |

Hopefully the car will make a return to competition sometime soon after a lengthy recuperation. Its current owner is intending to compete in rounds of the Midland Hillclimb Championship.
