Bas Leinders is a belgian driver who was competing in Super Nissan world series last year. He is 28 and is in the frame to fill one of the jordan seats and he has a test with the team soon. But i was under the impression that Nick Heidfeld had already signed to Jordan as a race driver. But the reason i am confused is that he is not down as a confirmed driver. So i was wondering if anyone knew what he did with jordan.

Nick Heidfeld's deal was dependant on funding being obtained, and seemingly that hasn't yet happened. The competition for both Jordan drives is very itnesnse, with Verstappen, McNish and Firman all in contention.
Leinders was German F3 champion some years ago, but failed to impress in F300 and has been racing in the Nissan World Series. I'm not sure he's really got the ability to succeed in Formula 1, but there are worse drivers in contention. He's doing some tests for Jordan, so that'll give a better idea what he can do. |

As far as i know, Heidfeld is not immediately in the running for the race seat as he doesn't have enough money unless they sign Jos which means they can then hire a non-paydriver but they would prefer a Brit as this would mean more sponsorship income from B+H.
So i would rather expect that Jos and either McNish or Wilson or Firman or maybe even Irvine gets the seats. Bas Leinders is probably our best chance for a Belgian F1 racedriver, but that's a very small, extremely small chance actually... I don't think he would cut it in F1. I think the only chance Bas has is as a testdriver/third driver.

I was under the impression that Jaroslav Janis was already signed as test driver.

How many drivers are actually signed? I get the opinion "none".

As of today (20 January 2004), Jordan has not signed any drivers.
There are lots of drivers in the frame (some of which have signed provisional contracts, but not actual racing contracts); however, nobody is confirmed yet. It's because Jordan need to find those drivers who can bring the largest budget. Last edited by Suzy; 20 Jan 2004 at 15:35. |

There are a few pics on F1-Live of the damage Bas rendered to the Jordan... significantly more than Timo did yesterday. Eddie tries to run these inexperienced (in f1, anyway) drivers in testing and appears to be paying dearly for it...

I wonder if these two Jordan test days will effect the 3rd driver rule on Friday.
Some of the current F1 drivers, expressed the opinion that having so many rookies out on the track on a Friday, could be potentially dangerous. The fact that two novices have heavily crashed cars on their first attempt, surely add's power to their argument? |

He was three seconds off the pace and in last spot. And on top of that, he crashes on his first lap. Not a promising start.
