Autosport Readership Figures
Hi,
I am currently creating a presentation to show to companies for sponsorship reasons, so therefore need to have recent readership figures for Autosport magazine. I have looked far and wide on the ol' web, yet have either found redundant figures, or contradicting ones that are more modern. If not to sound too picky, if someone had weekly figures on both the readership of the printed and digital editions that would be grand. Thanks, Matthew |

ABC - Audit Bureau of Circulation.
E.G. Autosport ( Haymarket Consumer Media ) : 26,837 ; -7.9% for Q3+4 2011. Lots more stuff at http://www.abc.org.uk/Certificates/17636553.pdf Interesting to see that the On-line edition is no longer registered for ABC certificate. Not sure what that means but the referenced document does have some information. Ask Autosport (Haymarket) if they can help beyond this. (Contact details on the referenced document.) Whatever we may think of the quality of the mag, or the ridiculous amount of coverage F1 gets, there are some factors to consider:
a) The age of internet means that every result & most of the information is already available up there, obviously much much faster and for free b) Digital version of Autosport exists c) There is more opposition to the mag, well certainly in terms of F1 stuff d) It's 2012, figure it out |

I'm an 'ex' subscriber, it's gone downhill beyond belief in my opinion over the last couple of years, whereas in my opinion 'Motorsport' has gone the other way.

I couldn't agree more. Autosport seems to have become like the motor sport equivalent of the News of the World whereas Motorsport is now a really good magazine and, despite the watch adverts which make nice wallpaper, is a great read from cover to cover.

+1 (or +2 as I'm agreeing with the post above too). Motorsport is to some degree what Autosport used to be, that's how it feels to me anyway.

On the basis of this month's issue, I don't know so much. 28 pages for a largely irrelevant survey is a bit overkill, in my opinion!

We've done Autosport's content several times before. Let's keep to the OP's original topic please.....

Motorsport will be better now as it is away from hayshed, which seem to destroy most magazines they get hold of apart from their own F1 racing of course.
When I worked for them As was running over 50,000 copies a week and MN was over 25,000 most weeks. How times change |

Well I'm biased, obviously, but I totally disagree; I think that the mag has improved quite noticeably over the last 6 or 7 years, certainly in respect of national, historic references and features. I won't be showing my son this thread anytime soon, since he and his very few co workers flog their backsides off and long hours to produce our only proper weekly motor racing magazine for little financial reward. And when it's gone it's gone!
I think you will also find that the internet has something to do with the decline in sales figures, chunder, as it has with other titles. Motorsport is indeed excellent but I never understand why a monthly is compared to a weekly - so many differences there is actually nothing to compare. I think that you will also find that it is sustained by entrepreneurial money which can be pulled at anytime. Last edited by John Turner; 9 Jul 2012 at 09:49. |

Ive enjoyed reading autosport for bout the last two years, I did last year for a couple of months buy motorsport news due to the amount of F1 but i much prefer autosport as reading about Rallying is not really my cup of tea.
Hope it keeps going for years to come as otherwise i dont know what ill be reading during lunch at Lydden Hill . |

Mostly I find Autosport lately isn't any worse than before and there seems to be a good mix of articles in there and often I am surprised at what I find.
Personally I am more into features rather than race reports, so frequently I flip through those. |

All magazines have seen a downturn in circulation. Stalwarts of the modified car industry, Max Power and Redline have both closed in the last year because of poor figures, and if you believe the noise, Fast Car isn't far behind.
For any motoring magazine to stay afloat and profitable in such times is a commendation. Track Driver is a great example for how to do it right, I'd love to see their figures. |

I think it's important to judge Autosport as a combination of the magazine and the website. Most of the feature content from the site is now subscription based and I have to say top notch. My subscription lapsed at Easter and I havent been able to renew it and Ive really missed reading the additional website content.

I defy anyone to read this week's Autosport and compare it to Hello magazine...

Lol ss
When you are basing most of this on subscription in an insanely specialised area such as yours you can make that claim. But selling magazines to the general public has declined horrendously in the past 5 years. If you cant see that then you might need to pop your head out and try and get a job elsewhere eh |

The fact that the news and results are but a google away, the internet took a nasty swipe at the Autosport product. They've persevered well from the internet revolution.
As for the 'Hello' thing, most trade publications are positive and upbeat and Autosport is no different and hasn't really changed in this respect. They want to retain good relationships with the sports stakeholders and as long as the detail isn't papered over, there's nothing wrong with that. I'm not intimate with the publishing process but putting out a weekly with features and scoops, nationally and internationally in such a narrow window, the worldload must be like running a NASCAR team on a shoestring. Not a task I envy! |
