Blockhead of the race
Michael, for whatever happened in the tunnel? Juan, for whatever happened in the tunnel? Ralf, for causing Alonso to crash? Alonso, for taking to the marbles in the tunnel? Fisi, for smashing into Coulthard (though, bias aside, I really don't think he could see anything). The marshals, for almost getting themselves killed twice. Richards, for not calling in Sato while his engine was self-destructing? Coulthard, because he really does look like a blockhead.
Who do you think was the blockhead of the race? Last edited by Inigo Montoya; 24 May 2004 at 16:06. |

I meant marshals, not stewards. Mods, someone please correct that particular brain fart. Thanks.

Hmm, I think Fissi wasn't exactly at fault. Watching the replay, it looked to me that Coulthard was almost standing still. (sure, that doesn't mean that Fisi was not "speeding" in fog condition)

I chose the marshalls. I especially liked the guy that almost got run over at the hairpin.

The marshalls were not up to scratch at all.

I could have chose Michaels blind braking, but stupider still was Fisico blasting in the smoke and HOPING he does not hit anything.

I chose the most obvious option, ie. David Coulthard.

I think the bar team should have called in Sato because it was a case of not if but when that engine was going to let go. Just think if that engine popped in the tunnel........crazy.

Montoya. The race leader dictates the pace behind the safety car. JPM should know that better than most. And he'd been lapped already.

TGF. For whatever brain fade he suffered in the tunnel, and for remaining absolutely mum about it. The only excuse I can imagine for it would be the pressure on him to beat Mansell's record, but that ought not to have made him try to wreck a guy that was a lap down on him.
But if I could choose a second blockhead, it'd be the marshall that dropped the flag. The rest of them are all kind of problematical, I think. |

Ralf for ignoring the blue flags to get the @#$% out of the way.As for thoose of you having a go at MS you should read the incident report. He suffered a suspension failure front right which pitched the car.The brake lock up is a result of him trying to stop the thing from crashing into the barriers. Both MS and JPM spoke after the race and JPM accepts what happened as an unavoidible racing incedent due to mechanical failure.
The Grumpy1 P.S.I am not defending MS just reporting the facts. |

grumpy1, can you provide a link of reference for that (MS/JPM incident report) . The latest Autosport article which quotes Michael extensively doesn't not mention a suspension failure.
Perhaps such evidence woul dbe best served in this thread: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...5&pagenumber=7 Last edited by Adam43; 24 May 2004 at 21:27. |

There's so much here to have a go at. But I chose the marshalls. Very pathetic for such a prestigeous race. However, I must admit, they certainly had me laughing.

A very good question, I think we need at least 3 votes for this poll. I votes for micheal because not only did he do a hard acceleration and extreme braking in a dark tunnel without break lights(!) but having "mucked up" he couldnt resist squeezing monty to make sure he couldnt get past, this is why he got my vote. monty shoots past? so what he's going to ceed the place back or get a stop go. Shades of MS DH adelaide incident and no, I will never let it go!

I think it's between the marshals and Michael... and although I'm a die-hard Michael fan, I'm gonna have to give it to the marshal stood on the racing line, flagging away like buggery, at the entry to the Loes hairpin... absolute class, that guy - I sincerely hope he drank for free last night...

Get the drop on him??? In the tunnel while still behind the safety car??? That's a bit early for a restart BSFan. Montoya took the only move he had and Michael moved right. For what reason I have no idea, as Monty only would have been moved back or penalized. And yes, JPM was a lap down, all the more mistifying as to why TGF moved over. The only argument I can find is why Monty was following that close, but then again I have no idea as to what is close and what is not close.
