Congrats to MS on being first three-time winner!
What a load of garbage...
On March 20, 1933, Bill Thompson won his third Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. Today, however, newspapers are sprouting that Michael Schumacher has become the first three-time winner of the race. Note, they are saying 'Australian Grand Prix'... no qualifications about World Title races, Formula One or anything else... Australian Grand Prix. Don't you just detest it when people ignore history? When they ignore what has gone before to try and make today seem better, brighter and more exciting? Today can live on its own excitement! Three-time Australian Grand Prix winners were: Bill Thompson 1939, 1932, 1933 Doug Whiteford, 1950, 1952, 1953 Lex Davison, 1954, 1957, 1958, 1961 Jack Brabham, 1955, 1963, 1964 Roberto Moreno, 1981, 1983, 1984 So credit where credit's due, people. There is no doubt about this, it is an abberation to allow anyone to think Michael Schumacher has done something never before achieved. In fact, just look at the years alongside Lex Davison's name... Four of them! |

I think they are saying TGF is the first driver to win three Australian GPs of World Championship Status (that is, from 1985 on)
But I agree with your thoughts nonetheless. BTW, anyone who says Moreno was hopeless, take a look at that!!! |

Actually, he was light on for hair then too...
But the newspapers are not saying WDC races, they say only Australian Grand Prix, which title has been attached to race back to 1927, and of which there were 49 recognised races prior to 1985... |

Er, don't they mean first hat trick of wins at a venue, as in - three in a row? In which case, Michael IS the first to do that in Australia? I am correct in saying that?

How can you say that?
The reports, I am told, only say he's the first to win three times - no mention of consecutively. The information came from a press release issued at Albert Park. Last edited by Ray Bell; 7 Mar 2002 at 21:00. |
