Chevron DBE 36-76-01 Lineage

Hello,

I'm doing some background research for a fellow Chevron owners' car.

It is reported that it is Chevron DBE-036-001, the car that won the last Targa Florio race in 1977, and is known as the "Apache" car. In that race, it was driven by R. Restivo and M. Alfonso and wore the number 12.

Other Sponsors that appeared on the car at that time were: Roney, John Johnny and Chamade

Apparently, the car hasn't seen much activity since, but we are curious if the lineage can be traced past that point.

Any leads and assistance is certainly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Can't help
Except that by 1977 Chevrom serial numbering had changed from the old DBE format, and the first B36 should have been 36-76-01. A car with that number was in fact advertised for sale in the UK in 1993

Right about the serial number switch.. However, I was working from quickly jotted notes and should have been more careful in transcribing for my post here.

I suppose it was a private sale and not through auction?

Yes, an advertisement in Autosport in October (and sorry, I don't have my copies available to check further). Somewhere in Cheshire, IIRC

Don't know if this helps, but Chevron lives on via Vin Malkie. He is based in Cheshire, so give him a try. www.chevronracing.com

I'm pretty sure my guy was in a different part of Cheshire
If someone can access the 7 Oct 1993 Autosport more easily than I can, there might be more detail

Thanks, but all of the usual channels have been tried.

I think I'll give Mark a call at IMRRC and see if he can take a momment to find that ad.

Thanks ~

Too funny...

That number led me to Vin... I should have recognized it straight away!

We had a good laugh over that one... He drew a blank once again, but he's going to do a bit more research and see if he can dig something out of his archives.

The search continues ~
