Track locations
Looks like I'll be coming over to England for a month or three in the new year. So, I have a few questions.
First, when does the season start? Are there any tracks close to Manchester? Which tracks are close to Manchester? Do I have to wear orange? Can I take my whites instead? Any special requirements for an American marshal? (ie join RAC or whatever it is called) Thanks guys and gals, hope to meet some of you in the new year! |

Lots of circuits are within a couple of hours' drive from Manchester - Anglesey, Mallory Park, Donington, Silverstone, etc. Quote:
You should be able to beg, borrow or steal something orange at most circuits. Bring your waterproofs! Last edited by Dave Brand; 2 Dec 2003 at 18:05. |

Looks like I'll be there starting early Feb through mid-March, but could possibly be longer.
I'll be working (and probably living) over in Selby while I'm there. Thanks for the reply. |

Mid-March should just about be the start of the UK racing year. Selby - Yorkshire? Nearest circuits would be Donington (Derby), Croft (Darlington) and Mallory Park (Leicester - normally the first race of the year).

Selby, the closest will most probably be Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire (near Louth). We haven't any dates yet but there might be something that early...

Selby will give you easy access to Croft (about 1hour), and the motorway network for Oulton, Donington, and Cadwell. I live about 15-20mins from Selby so feel free to get in touch if you need any more info or help.

If you're looking at early Feb you may catch the marshal training days. Oulton's are 7/8th Feb. Other circuits will have them around the same time, could be a good chance to meet people and learn how we "do it"

In recent years, Mallory has kick-started a new season at the beginning of March with the 750 Motor Club. You'll get a great reception and great racing as well!

Provisional date for 750MC at Mallory is 14th March, possibly followed by Donington the following week.
I hope you enjoy your time in the UK. |

Pardon the total ignorance here, but where the heck is Mallory?
Are the web sites or things I can look up for Croft? Alan, let me know, heck we can always get together for a few brews. As far as enjoying the time in the UK, absolutly! The only problem is that it will only be about 3 months (as of now). I may be able to extend to three years if possible. (Where's the fingers crossed smiley?) |

For Croft you can read comments from a marshalling perspective (and with a link to their home page) on marshalspost.com - there's also details on other circuits you may be interested in as well.

OULTON PARK
My wife and I visited UK in August and worked at Oulton Park. Heartily recommend it. We were made extremely welcome and enjoyed a truely memorable weekend. We did not have to wear orange.(Thanks guys and best seasonal wishes!)

Thanks for all the advice. Hope to meet some of you next season at a meeting or two.
It is making work go by faster trying to track all those tracks down. |
