Much to learn about V8 Supercars

Other than the Great race (Bathurst 1000), I must admit I know very little about the V8 Supercars Championship. Have however been watching the 1000 (from my couch) since those days when it was known as the Hardie Ferrodo 1000 though.

That's the reason why I read posts rather than post.

One question, how do the Aussies view Max Wilson? What degree of success is he considered by fans down there?

In my opinion, he has never really succeded to any
great heights in V8 supercars. Just 1 of the pack.

SO to answer you question not alot of success at all.

Max is a little champ loved his quick driving in 2002 had his best ever result in 2003 and has had the worse luck this year with him getting good speed out of the car but the car keeps breaking all the time.

I like Max , I think he is great , he hasnt had much success in V8's but you cant deny his effort , he tries very hard wherever he goes and I think he is a great addition to the series.

I hope he stays for a long time

Mattracer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Turned a lot of heads in his first season, particularly in qualifying but not much since. His ability to learn a new circuit "on the run" in an unfamiliar car must be acknowledged by all- very fast! Moved to DJR. Then back to his former team now taken over by 888 Race Engineering, the biggest "coming team" in the series, and possibly the "place to be".

I think Max has had a lot of bad luck over his career, there is no denying he is super quick, mainly in qualifying, as mattracer said, but I really feel you just don't do champ-cars if you aren't quick, he just needs a team worthy of him, 888 seems to fit the bill. He has the ability, just wait and see.

Pretty much all you need to know about V8 Supercars (tongue in cheek here):
* The cars (apart from bodyshape) are practically the same
* Despite this, both makes are constantly complaining that their car is slower than the other
* Mark Skaife is either respected or hated depending who you barrack for
* Tony Cochrane is always talking about the "spectacle" then trying to get another dollar for it
* Any time a Ford hits a Holden, it's ruled a racing incident
* Any time a Holden hits a Ford, it's rule a stop-go penalty
* There appear to be more Ford fans at any given racetrack
* Peter Brock is God (according to many now-faded T-shirts)
* This post is largely inaccurate (depending on who you ask)

Remember - it's not life & death, it's much more important than that

Intially experience was an issue for Max, but now it seems to be the lack of a good car.

Thank you all for the insights into V8. Especially for Dingo's candid views. What time is it in Brisbane now anyway? It's 8.45am here in Singapore but still no results of the first practice for the Konica cup. Must be 10.45am there in QR, is it not?

Good, it's 2 hours ahead in Brisbane then.

Will keep an eagle eye on the V8 site's results service.

Can't contain myself for Yoong's continued progress. Guess I'm the only one from this region, if not the only non-Aussie.

I did notice that there are only 10 Commodores as opposed to 20 Falcons. I thought they were supposed to have an equal number of each as with the big boys. Anyone know anything on this?

It is for us poor plebs who don't have bigpond. Just the normal timing screen with no pictures. Fastest lap etc and split times.

Hi All

Kerri, you can get the PS2 timing from the avesco site, costs $24.95 for the year, and most of the time it works

Although I am yet to see an explanation for a yellow or red flag this year, despite the fact they advertise it will be there in text - LOL

Anyone can help me locate some good pics (in the net) of the Konica racers in this weekend's QR round besides the V8 official site?
