young aussie dies.....
from mcnews.com.au
another tragic racing death in 2003 We regret to inform you that after a serious turn one crash at Eastern Creek yesterday in the final Australian Supersport race for 2003, 19-year-old Hornsby (NSW) resident Reece Bancell has lost his life. Reece was one of Australia's brightest young road racers and was passionately committed to the sport he loved. He commenced road racing in 1998 aboard an 80cc Moriwaki machine and took his first race win the following year. He then moved on to the 250 Production class before joining the Australian Supersport ranks in 2002. Reece strung together some great consistency for many podium finishes and that run of great form gave him third outright in the 2002 Australian Supersport Championship. He also finished as the 'Top Privateer' in the Australian Championship for 2002. This year Reece had been working hard to stay with the factory bikes in the Australian Supersport Championship. The incident at Eastern Creek resulted from a group of riders colliding in turn one, a domino effect resulted with many bikes coming together and a few riders leaving the track. Unfortunately Reece came down hard, and was transported to Sydney's Westmead Hospital. It was there he passed away. Our deepest sympathies are with the Bancell family at this tragic time. It is fair to say that Reece was one of the most liked people in the Aussie Superbike paddock, he will be sorely missed by all involved. The world is a poorer place from the tragic loss of this bright young man. Note added later: We received a call from Reece's father later today and after discussions with him we agreed to set up a message board for condolence messages for the Bancell family. Please lend your support here Reece's family is also extremely keen for a 'Reece Bancell Memorial Trophy' to be awarded at the end of each race season. They are keen to ensure that Reece is never forgotten. The family have suggested perhaps awarding this to the highest placed privateer in the Supersport Championship each year. |

The funeral is in the notices today, including a request for no flowers, instead a donation to the Flag Marshall's Association
Very sad news |
