The best 2007 GT2 car?
With Sebring barely weeks away and the new season almost upon us, we're seeing some pretty interesting changes in GT2 this year. But who's going to come out on top? Will the F430 take charge once more? Will the new Porsche be unbeatable? Will anyone else sufficiently step up their game?
I created a poll, see who thinks will take charge - as I think it's going to be very, very close this year. This isn't just for LM, or any particular race or championship - it's what you think is generally going to be the better performing car over the season (because although LM is important, it doesn't always tell the whole story of the year). Add particular races and championships in the subsequent posts. I'd vote Porsche simply because you can never, ever underestimate them in this category, but it will be extremely close between them, Ferrari and Panoz. What does anyone else think? |

Too close to call at this point, so no vote from me. It is clearly a two horse race this year, Porsche vs. Ferrari. I believe that the 997 will ultimately prove to be the better car, but the Ferrari has a year of development on it, and things should be very even this year. 2008, and I think the 997 will pull ahead. This year should be something special though.

Almost an impossible one to call, which probably reflects just how good GT2 could be this year.
I plumped for Porsche, by a nose, over Ferrari. It'll be close but I reckon last year was Ferrari's while we waited for the 997 - and to be honest Porsche were seldom humiliated. That said, I suspect I'll be rooting for Panoz (for the sheer spectacle of big American iron), even though I think any wins for them will come down to racecraft more than outright pace, and GT2 simply wouldn't be the same without a Spyker. |

i went for the Ferrari... they now seems (very strangely) to be committed to the program and with same commitment from Porsche a year of developement should be quite a good advantage in Sebring, LM, Spa, PLM and 1000Km...

I went for the Ferrari 430. Yes the new Porsche will be quick but so will the 430, and the 430 is bound to have undergone some developments during the off season so it should in theory be faster than what it was in 2006. It's going to be very close though and a good battle to watch with the Panoz's right close up behind.

Surely there will be some Panoz development too? Does anyone think the Esperante will be competitive this year? If not in ALMS, then in Europe at least?

I expect a close, balanced battle with a slight tip towards the F430. And I expect to see the Spyker pester and annoy the big boys on a permanent basis. It'll keep breathing down their necks.

i think the fezza is going to be quicker than the new porker 997 RSR's but i think the porker's are going to have better fuel efficiency and have the better race pace at the start.
but i like my high revving screaming V8 engines, so i am biased of course |

I voted for the Spyker C8 Spyder GT2-R. They made a real step up last year and i expect them to do the same this year. I think they will be able to close the gap this season (or is it just wishfull thinking?)...

not wishful thinking at all with the spyker, they had a car that was fast and reliable last year and with continued development it will be able to beat the 430 gt's or atleast draw even with them.
the spyer though is IMHO the best looking car in the GT2 field |

Z06 Corvette! LG Motorsports ALMS and Markland Racing in the LMS! Only because it is my favorite and it's to close to call between the 997's and 430's. I know they need some shaking out but one can hope they will be competitive soon!

Well for my sake, I voted Porsche and I bloody hope it is the fastest!
The pre Sebring tests showed that it was slightly faster than the Ferrari (0.3), but that might not show the whole story... Hopefully the 430 and the 997 will be close and we can have some good fights in FIA GT2. I hear the Panoz might do some selected rounds of FIA GT? That could also be good, but whatever happens, it is going to be a very closely fought year in GT2 round the world and I am looking forward to it very much. I will get my first run in the 997 RSR on Wednesday at Brands Hatch, so I will let you know how it "feels". |

I have to hand that to Porsche , doing what they did , with a brand new 430 out there .
Regardless , that it didnt win the championship , for a 6 year old car , that was magic . Cant wait to see what the new 997 will get up to this year . Sean ..... i just wish that Brands was on the Fia GT race list . Best track in england , imo . And best of luck , hope you beat them Ferraris !!! Last edited by The Badger; 6 Feb 2007 at 00:00. |

I wonder what the "Other" votes were for, besides the HORNDAWG's Z06 vote.

I voted for the Ferrari, but I am worried that Porsche might have done some serious testing in winter and is already ahead...

I think Ferrari will have the edge of having experience with their car for this year, but Porsche will take back control in 2008.

Badger, it is a great track (the gp version that is, hate the indy, too small...)!
Thanks, hopefully we will The guys who doubt Porsche and say that Ferrari are 1 year ahead are wrong really. Porsche have done so much testing last year and obvioulsy the Spa 24. Porsche will not stop developing the car until they win, thats for sure. But looking as it stands now, Porsche already seem to have the edge over the Ferrari and in the FIA GT championship at least, we can make the car even faster by upgrading some parts. My money is definatly on Porsche to win the majority of all major GT2 championship this year. But, it will be very closely fought! |

It is refreshing to have a genuine challenger (on pace) to the Porsche 'steamroller'. We should see some incredible battles between the two marques. My hope is that PTG could spring a few surprises across the Pond, once they get to grips with the Esperante. But Yokohama will need to come up with a good tyre.

racing is much different from testing... in any other program by Ferrari let's say 360, 575 and F40 i always would have tought that the other manufacturers would have it won against Ferrari but this time i think the are really working in a good way so just giving them some trust... in 2008 it will be a different story for sure

Have to agree with Sean, the beatle over the fiat by the end of the year...
Pity the GT2 Viper didn't get off the ground as more variety is always welcome. Archibold |

Porsche
Weissach is more dedicated in improving the car than Maranello. |
