B.M.F. 2008 (Merged x2)
Had heard a rumour BIMF 2008 was moving from the Easter long weekend. The BIMF website now lists the date for the 2008 event as 15th-18th February - Seems they have indeed moved from easter in an attempt to attract more of a crowd.

The BMF in February I feel is a good move, in terms of warmth and hopefully in gathering more of a fan base. |

Big mistake in date change... it's now too near Clipsal, A1 and AGP... too many big spends for teams to do so close together...
it'll flop unless they move it to a gap in the calendar. Shame... a few moments forethought would have paid off.... |

I too think they are making a mistake moving it from the Easter weekend.

Improved Production RX7s racing with V8 Commodores and Falcons....
Hey, we've got a fella running an old Bluebird in Vic too. Sound like we're going back to 1984. Might be fun. |

Early Easter BATHURST historics and friends could see a spillover of Historics from Phillip Island AND Albert Park. What a Trifecta! Why oh why can't the 12 hour people stick with it and create the critical mass needed to make something happen?March in Bathurst is balmy compared to late April-ie FESTIVAL weather!
I know one regular competitor who is doing Phillip Island AND Bathurst 2008-- does it get any better if you're a competitor--or an enthusiast? |

Bathurst changes
The Bathurst Festival (incorporating the 12-hour) has been moved forward yet again to accomodate Clipsal. Now on Feb 8-10.

The promotors are reacting positively to announcements by other catagories/events to ensure as many teams & drivers are able to attend the event. Good on them for being proactive in their planning. Changing the event to the week prior in February to that announced a while back is not a total schemozzle, it's a good decision based on making the event as successful as it can be. Unfortunately you cannot please everybody with dates, and their will always be reasons why people can't attend. Why we are complaining about several events being on in February escapes me. Embrace the fact we are getting more events over a longer part of the year - makes the off season less of an off ... |

In terms of building up a traditional yearly event in terms of the BIMF (sorry BMF.....sorry BF....) they should stick with the one weekend for continuity, and Easter was the perfect weekend for it. It had the perfect history in terms of motorsporting events held on the Easter weekend in the past, along with the return of the 12 Hour on the same date as old.
Constantly changing dates (will this be a permanent date, or after next year will they change it again for 2009?) is just digging a hole for the whole thing, not building some high ground to establish the event. I've said it before and will say it again, at that time of year there will not be much darkness in the 12 Hour...... |
