NASN Sound

Was anyone else annoyed at NASN's 'silent' coverage of the Michigan race this weekend? It's not the first. or even tenth time this year it's happened.

MrSal should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
We watched the race on NASN and didn't have a problem. As far as I can remember we haven't had sound problems ever during the nascar.

Do you have cable or sky? We found that the commentary disappeared at the start and didn't return for at least 40 minutes. We could hear the cars themselves, it was like watching trackside with no commentary.

We have sky digital and the coverage,as usual, was excellent. No problems whatsoever.

I think I might owe NASN an apology here, I have received a response from them and it appears our 'professionally' set-up tv system might not be picking up the right signal. If so and messing around with it on Sunday generates a proper sound then I will apologise in full.

Ah, I get the exact same thing. Very low volume, or sound that only comes out of the rear speakers on my TV. In the end I changed the TV setup from Pro-Logic to stereo and it worked a treat. Must have something to do with the feed they get from the States or something. It does usually work OK though, I think this was maybe the forth time it has happened.

for anyone else who might experience the same, allow me to quote from the helpful e-mail sent from NASN:

"When we receive the NASCAR programme feeds from the States, they are often sent with the wrong audio configuration. We have requested that they come in with the following Stereo configuration:

Left Audio: Full mix (commentator and wild track)
Right Audio: Full mix (commentator and wild track)

However, we often get them in the following configuration:

Left Audio: Full mix (commentator and wild track)
Right Audio: wild track

Our technical staff on the ground this side of the Atlantic, do their best to resolve the incorrect audio configuration by 'patching' left audio into the right audio output. This results in dual-mono audio going out. This
should not cause any loss of commentator audio to viewers at home.

We have looked at the VHS tapes that were recorded of the NASN output during last Sunday's NASN and the commentator audio was present throughout the programme.

Our technical department suggest that you check the settings of the audio 'configuration' that you have on your TV - i.e. Surround Sound, Stereo, NICAM etc".
