25 registrations so far, with the promise of more to come. "New" Audi for Steve Hirst and a Mondeo for Steve Papworth, plus a V8 Sierra for Andrew Wilson. Looks as though I will be on the sidelines for a while, due to impending back operation unless I can find a miracle cure a.s.a.p.

Nice try, but the "boys" want to try a few mods even though we had a win today at Brands. They don't want to get bored or rest on their laurels. How about that for dedication (sad really).

Why do they call Saloons-'sedans' in America? I know a saloon is like a Pub in the US, so wht gives?

Thanks Stephen, the cheaper entry fee seemed to encourage a few more drivers well done to BARC south east for "buying" the grid.

Just got back from Silverstone for the Formula Saloons launch / test. Couldn't stay all day unfortunately but a great turn out, and the ex ETCC Giovanardi Alfa is just gorgeous! The guy who owns it only picked it up on Tuesday and on the track today.
Plenty of Super Touring Nissan's, Mondeo's, Accord's, quick Cosworth Sapphire's/Sierra's plus Kumho BMWs. FS will be really good this season so come along and see Britain's fastest saloon car championship. Some other lovely stuff testing too - Gerry Marshall in the Marsh Aston, Win Percy in XK120.. |

I'll second what Andrew just said. A great turn-out, plus I understand a fair few more V8s still to come.
The Alfa looked fabulous, still in full ETCC Giovanardi livery. Chatting to Garry earlier the Alfa isn't yet signed up for the series but was invited along to sample what's on offer. Fingers crossed for that one. |

Have the rules been changed or are there more modern cars out now?

I know his old one was a Belgian one replicated like Biela's.

The new one is in Biela livery as well, although slighty different to the old car. Seem to remember reading somewhere it was chassis number ST13 and the last of the pukka 4WD quattros, which rules it out as the 1996 championship winning car. Don't know if it's actually an ex BTCC car, I suspect probably not.

Now you mention that I seem to remember reading somewhere it was either an ex-German or Italian series Super Tourer. Not being much help I know..

Steve's Audi is the last 4wd built and as far as I am aware was never raced especially in BTCC. Steve had a good run a Brands a weeka ago to try the car for the first time and was very optomistic about his chances of winning this year. However he did not get to run the car himself at Silverstone as he caught his thumb in between the caliper and wheel in the morning and was rushed to hospital. He is now recovering from surgery to reconstruct the skin. He hopes to be out for the first race on the 21st and we wish him all the best.
Peter the rules have not been changed to allow earlier cars we have allowed 97 onwards Super Tourers in since 2001. The day was a great success for us with the weather adding to it nicely. There where many interested parties there and it looks likely that there could be another 3 Super Tourers out at sometime in the season. That would make 23 Super Tourers registered for the Championship however it is unlikely that they would all turn up at the same time. Although the Super Tourers are doing well we must not forget the other Classes and we are expecting 7 V8's out this year with Andy chester in his Camero, Ric Wood's Calibre and Holden, Peter Thurstons MK1 Escort, Andy Mackenzie's Opel, Andrew Wilsons RS500,Nathan Mills Mk2 Escort and hopefully someone in the Stars and Stripes Manta. There are also 7 good Turbo cars headed by Rod Birley's Honda ( when he has recovered from his back op ) So it looks like a good year and I hope you can get down to see us. |
