Mr-2
Not for me, but I'm asking on behalf of a coleague who is seriously thinking about preparing an MR-2 for track days/racing.
If he did it to racing spec. what would he be eligable to compete in? I don't think I've _ever_ seen an MR-2 in a race yet, so I've drawn a blank and the intercyberwebnet doesn't seem much better. |

No idea what it would be eligible for, but Series-2 shape MR2s did run in the German ADAC GT series against Calibras and Nissan 200SX in the mid-nineties.
Apart from one beaten-up rallycross car at Lydden, I've never seen a series 1 MR2 on a circuit of any kind, I must confess. |

Which MR2 are you talking about?
- the first one around 1987 with the 1600cc twincam with supercharger option (Toyota Team Australia ran one of these without the s/c so an email to them may prove fruitful) - the second one around 1991 with the 2000cc twincam (Colin Osbourne of CAMS Australia ran two of these in the 2002 Bathurst 24hr, would also be worth an email) Havent seen anything race of the 3rd model |

It could race in things like the 750MC Roadsports, EERC Britcars, one of the regional 'Sports and Saloons' series such as Europa Engineering, WRDA, the South East one at Lydden etc.
I'm sure the 750MC regs are on their website. |

Aha, thanks all for your help.
True B, I'm pretty sure it's one of the 1st ones. |

Agree with Guy - it's going to be one of the 'sports/saloons' categories, or possibly Mod Prods, if you can afford to pep up the engine and suspension a little.
Alternatively, if it's a series 1 car, it just might be eligible for the Pre-90 class of the CTCRC, but I don't know how they work that out these days. |

They're only a two-seater, so i don't think it could be raced as a touring car, should be eligible for some sort of production Sports Car class?

I'm guessing it might be able to run in either the Castle Combe GTs (although it would be out-classed!)

Go to the MR2 owners club pages, there's some info on race cars there..
There is a Mk1 that sprints, it was at colerne a couple of weeks ago - running on slicks and was quick!! www.bristolpegasus.co.uk may have some info.. You'll certainly get the driver's name and times from results sheet.. Just don't look too closely at my efforts.. |

Will do.
He's looking to rebuild his MR2 (which he wrote off at a track day at Cadwell) and is considering rebuilding it as a race/sprint car. Not sure what stage he's at. Personally, I think he should get a nice Triumph and race that... |

A guy used to race regulary in the welsh Sport saloons Granville Williams I think his name was, He was alway's mixing it with the cossie's, so there is no doubt in my mind that these cars can be competative.

Grenville Williams - I compete (and lose) against him fairly regularly, in fact I think we are both 7oaks members.
