Superkart driver killed in Silverstone yesterday

Anybody hear anything more about this. A dreadful tragedy to beset the Superkart fraternity after the deaths of Mervyn Campbell in Kirkistown earlier this year and Peter Dearden in Brands last year.

Incredibly sad I must say.

My thoughts are with the Family, Friends and also the Brooklands marshals and medical teams that were quickly on scene.

Also thanks to the kart racers who backed off to a crawling pace.

Very good point Adam.

All I have to say here is my very deepest sympathies to the driver's family and friends... maybe people could use this thread for that purpose and not discuss details.

I saw the accident as i was stood watching right next to it- Not very nice at all and it really is a wake up call to how dangerous motorsport can be at times.

As a racer myself i would not set foot in one of those super karts, i draw the line at that but i'm sure the guy was aware of the risks and passed away doing what he enjoys.

I have only just seen this terrible news on BBC Teletext. My condolences to the driver's family and friends from an ex-long circuit gearbox kart racer.

Tim 27 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I have been involved in racing for 40 years now, either as marshal, spectator or mechanic, participating in several hundred race meetings. Until Sunday, thankfully I had never witnessed a fatal accident.
Unfortunately the regional news and Ceefax coverage of this incident appear to be wide of the mark, stating that the driver was approaching Luffield, and after being thrown out was hit by a chasing kart.
Both these statements were incorrect, and I wondered where the news source came from?
My sincere condolences go out to the drivers family and friends.

I imagine that the source was the local constabulary.
